After being selected No. 3 overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, Jaylen Brown spent 10 seasons with the Boston Celtics, helping lead the franchise to six Eastern Conference Finals appearances, two NBA Finals, and a championship (in which Brown won NBA Finals MVP).
Despite his production and the team’s success, he was still traded to the team’s division rival, the Philadelphia 76ers, this offseason. After the blockbuster deal, Brown got candid about the business side of basketball and offered advice to anyone hoping to play in the NBA.
Jaylen Brown Makes Feelings Clear on Business of Basketball After Celtics-76ers Trade
On Thursday, the newly acquired 76ers star appeared alongside popular streamer IShowSpeed while they watched the World Cup quarterfinal match between France and Morocco. During the livestream, Brown discussed his recent move to Philadelphia and shared the harsh realities of life in the NBA.
“I just got traded. They packed me up, bro. It’s a crazy business, bro. Don’t ever become a basketball player. There is no loyalty…” Brown said. “I got packed up. They packed me up.”
When IShowSpeed asked why he got traded, Brown responded, “That’s a good question. That’s a real good question. I think a lot of people want to hear that and are asking that question right now. They packed me up. Sayonara.”
Looking on the bright side of the trade, Brown added, “We got [Tyrese] Maxey, [Joel] Embiid.”
Jaylen Brown just talked to IShowSpeed and told him never become a basketball player because there’s no loyalty after getting traded to the Sixers:

Although he exits a franchise he was extremely familiar with, where he played alongside All-NBA star Jayson Tatum for nearly a decade, he now enters an environment in Philadelphia that should still be an excellent fit for him.
The 76ers’ projected starting five heading into 2026 may very well be the league’s best. Maxey, an All-NBA point guard, and VJ Edgecombe, an All-Rookie first-team member in 2025, will handle the backcourt duties. Meanwhile, former MVP Embiid and recently signed free-agent stretch four Dean Wade are expected to start in the frontcourt alongside Brown.
Last season, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists on 47.7% shooting from the field and 34.7% from downtown. Again, this starting unit has a strong argument for being the most complete and well-rounded in the entire association.
It is also worth noting that LeBron James has yet to make a free-agency decision, and the 76ers are just one of five teams, alongside the Cavaliers, Heat, Timberwolves, and Warriors, that remain in the sweepstakes, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Brown even made mention of the decision on the stream, asking IShowSpeed to recruit the 22-time All-Star and future first-ballot Hall of Famer to join him in Philadelphia. “LeBron, pull up to Philly. Think about it. LeBron. Jaylen Brown,” Speed said.

Brown, who battled Philadelphia throughout his career, including in the first round of last year’s NBA Playoffs, will now have to get used to wearing 76ers colors.
It may take some time to get acclimated, but he and the 76ers will try to secure a top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and contend for the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
