Nick Wright is at it again, blasting NBA analysts Charles Barkley and the legendary Shaquille O’Neal for their controversial opinions and clear bias toward specific teams. Wright became even more critical of the legends’ perspective and tone on the current basketball landscape, noting that Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw, on the NFL side, do not behave in the same way.
Why Nick Wright Believes NBA Analysts Are Overly Critical
Barkley has become infamous for his blunt honesty that often sparks debates across the NBA community. Throughout this season, he was constantly slamming the Los Angeles Lakers, even questioning ESPN for its extensive coverage of the franchise, and claiming that they should instead focus on the No. 1 seeds, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Wright opposed Barkley, stating that while Chuck is loved by many, his remark about the Lakers being irrelevant was unwarranted. The franchise didn’t even receive props for getting one of the best players, Luka Dončić.
“ALL YEAR, he’s said the Lakers stink. Not that they’re not the best team in the league. That they’re bad/irrelevant. ALL YEAR, he’s minimized anything they’ve done. Then, they trade for Luka, and NO ONE was more adamant that it wouldn’t work and that the Mavs were better off this year.”
In a recent episode of the “What’s Wright?” podcast, Wright revisited the instance when Barkley said he wanted the Lakers to lose to the Denver Nuggets. He also emphasized that former players always aim to prove that their era was the best, unlike how Bradshaw and Long approach their sport on Fox NFL.
“It might be the greatest sports show ever. With that said, I wish it felt like they enjoyed basketball more. Before the Lakers Nuggets game, Chuck saying ‘I hope the Lakers lose’ because he was angry talk shows would take the Lakers seriously. If they’re the 3 seed in the west are people allowed to take them a little serious?”
He added, “Then after the game they win, and Austin making that unbelievable play and Luka game winner, and Shaq said ‘good teams don’t need that’ like what are we doing? You see more in the NBA of the guys saying their era was better. You don’t see Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long on Fox NFL pre-game being like ‘none of these guys could cut it in the 70s or 80s!”

Chuck, living up to his reputation as one of the most opinionated analysts, said that he wanted the Lakers to lose because of the “crap” on TV that might follow the next morning. However, the Hall of Famer didn’t get what he wished for, as the Lakers earned a gritty 127-125 win against the Nuggets.
Big efforts from Dončić, Marcus Smart, and Austin Reaves led the squad to victory, as they racked up 30, 21, and 32 points, respectively. It was also Dončić’s triple-double that gave his team an edge.
The March 14 game was the second game back for LeBron James after his injury layoff. And now, the team is on a 7-game winning streak ahead of the clash against the Miami Heat.
