NBA World Reacts To Minnesota Timberwolves Signing Former All-Star

The Minnesota Timberwolves have brought back a former player.

Mike Conley is in the middle of his 19th season in the NBA.

The former Ohio State star is averaging 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest while shooting 32.2% from the field and 32.1% from three-point range in 44 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Earlier this month, the Timberwolves traded Conley to the Chicago Bulls.

Conley was then traded again to the Charlotte Hornets.

NBA World Reacts To Minnesota Timberwolves Signing Mike Conley

Since Conley was traded twice, the Timberwolves were eligible to re-sign him (and they did).

Via Michael Scotto of HoopsHype: “The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed Mike Conley to a deal for the rest of the season, league sources told @hoopshype. Conley has averaged 9.2 points, including shooting 41.3% from 3-point range, 4.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in four combined seasons with Minnesota.”

Here’s what people were saying about the news:

Chris Hine: “Mike Conley is back, and he appears to be set for Friday’s game, the first after the break for the Wolves. Cue the dual “Thank you, Mike” and “Welcome back, Mike” videos.”

@PioneerPress: “Mike Conley re-signs with Timberwolves, will practice Wednesday”

@NBABoards: “What took them so long?”

@TimGarrisonMN: “I don’t believe Minnesota will be major players in the buyout market after they finalize Mike Conley today. I think this team has its rotation set, and a second free agent is essentially the 14th or 15th man. They’re not going to play unless some catastrophic injury luck transpires. I think the team brings back Mike and guarantees Johnny Juzang on the last day of the season. Juzang is nearly finished with his two way availability, and that’s why we likely saw his not as random minutes as it appeared prior to the deadline. I get that will frustrate some people, but the organization would save over a $1 million in payroll by rewarding someone who’s been in the building all year instead of bringing in an external vet who’ll just ride the bench.”

Jon Krawczynski: “Looking back at the loophole that allowed the Timberwolves to reunite with Mike Conley.”

Conley is no longer the player he once was when he made the 2021 NBA All-Star Game.

That said, he has been an extremely valuable player for the Timberwolves to have in their locker room.

In each of the previous two seasons, the Timberwolves have made the Western Conference finals.

The Timberwolves are currently the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 34-22 record in 56 games.

They are in the middle of a two-game winning streak (and have won seven out of their last ten).

Following the All-Star break, the Timberwolves will resume action on Friday when they host the Dallas Mavericks at the Target Center.

Conley has also spent time playing for the Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz.
