Jayson Tatum continues to impress the league with his unprecedented comeback from an Achilles tendon tear. He put up another fantastic performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, sending waves through the NBA.

Jayson Tatum’s Achilles Recovery Defies Expectations, Leaving NBA Community Amazed
Athletes who suffer a torn Achilles tendon typically miss an entire season before coming back. Not only did Tatum defy that expectation by coming back after approximately 10 months, but he’s also played in two consecutive games already.
After making an impressive season debut on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks, he followed it up with an even better showing against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday. In his second game back, he scored 20 points in 27 minutes. He had the second-most points for the Boston Celtics, and his contributions helped his squad to a 109-98 victory.
Following the game’s conclusion, praise poured in for Tatum from almost the entire league, including his own teammates. Forward Sam Hauser, as quoted by Celtics beat reporter Daniel Donabedian, said, “He makes our offense that much better.”
The NBA-dedicated X account “Hater Report” posted a clip of Tatum’s highlights from the game along with a caption that said, “Jayson Tatum really might finally be developing aura coming back early from a torn Achilles like this and HOOPING. 12 in the first quarter in the second game back.”
“I never expected Jayson Tatum to look THIS good already. He’s freaking awesome,” Keith Smith said, host of the NBA Front Office Show.
A fan page on X called CelticsUnite was hit with a wave of nostalgia, comparing their staunch defense to that of their latest title run. They said, “The Celtics defense actually feels like 2022. Having [Baylor] Scheierman, Hugo [Gonzalez], Jaylen [Brown], Tatum, Derrick [White] all on the perimeter feels unfair.”
That same fan page also posted a dedicated tribute to Tatum’s impressive recovery. It said, “Imagine showing this Tatum tape to someone and telling them he’s coming off an Achilles rupture 300 days ago. This is not normal.”

In his first game after his injury, Tatum recorded a double-double with 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with seven assists. His contributions helped his team bounce back from a loss against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday.
The Celtics are now 2-0 since Tatum’s return and have widened their lead over the New York Knicks in the standings. Following their win against the Cavaliers, Tatum and company are now 43-21, putting them among the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
