The Golden State Warriors are off to an average start this season. Following their 120-127 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night, they slipped to 13-13. They are currently the 8th seed in the Western Conference. They are yet to find consistency this season.
With the trade deadline approaching, the Warriors could be active in pursuit of upgrades. According to an NBA insider, Stephen Curry’s team is showing significant interest in a big man from the Eastern Conference to add to its roster and improve the team overall.

Warriors Eye Center Upgrade As Trade Deadline Nears
The Warriors’ search for consistency could prompt them to make a notable move ahead of the NBA trade deadline. Despite flashes of strong play, Curry’s team has struggled to find rhythm on both ends of the floor. With the postseason picture beginning to take shape, Golden State may look to address its most glaring need, a reliable presence at center.
According to NBA insider Evan Sidery, the Warriors are expected to explore the trade market for an upgrade in the frontcourt, with Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton emerging as a potential target.
“The Warriors, who will be in the market for a center upgrade during trade season, are expected to show interest in Nic Claxton. The Nets are once again open to moving Claxton, who is under contract through 2027-28. A swap of Jonathan Kuminga for Claxton would be on the table.”
Claxton, 26, has been a key defensive anchor for Brooklyn over the past several seasons. Known for his rim protection, mobility, and ability to switch defensively, he fits the profile of the type of big man Golden State has often thrived with alongside Curry.
From a contractual standpoint, Claxton is signed to a four-year, $97 million deal with the Nets. For the 2025–26 season, he carries a cap hit of $25.35 million, the exact figure as his cash salary. His contract runs through the 2027–28 season, giving any acquiring team multiple years of control.

For the Nets, who remain open to reshaping their roster, moving Claxton could help them pivot toward younger assets or future flexibility. A potential swap involving Jonathan Kuminga would represent a significant decision for both franchises, as Kuminga remains one of Golden State’s most intriguing young pieces.
With the trade deadline approaching, league sources expect the Warriors to remain active in trade discussions. Whether interest in Claxton materializes into a deal remains to be seen, but Golden State’s intent to pursue a center upgrade appears increasingly clear.
