D’Angelo Russell has been a journeyman in the NBA. The playmaker has plied his trade for quite a few marquee teams in the league, including two stints with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Russell has also played for the Brooklyn Nets twice and has had stints with the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The guard found himself copping flak earlier for his recent comments. Russell, speaking on The Backyard Podcast, had fans trolling him after he said, “I believe I’m in my prime.”
How Did Fans React to D’Angelo Russell’s Bold Prime Take?
Fans on social media wasted no time in tearing into D’Angelo Russell soon after his comment went viral on X (formerly Twitter).
“My preparation is completely different,” Russell said. “I still don’t feel–I mean –I feel like I’m in my prime. Like, I don’t feel old. I feel stronger. I feel wiser. I feel more careful. And that’s it.”
This had fans sharing their two cents. “He’s in his prime. Thing is, his prime is not that good,” one of the tweets read.

The savage responses from fans continued. “Cool, man. Nobody cares,” a fan responded. “Somebody go tell him the truth,” a fan added. “This is a new meme,” another added.
Russell agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks earlier this summer. He will now reunite with Lakers teammates Anthony Davis and Max Christie. His second stint with the Lakers ended in December last year after he was traded to the Nets.
This summer, the veteran guard was added to fill in for Kyrie Irving as the former NBA champion continues to recover from his torn ACL. His experience and chemistry with his former Lakers teammates will be crucial for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks will hope that Russell strikes from early on as he heads into the new season, averaging 17.3 points and 5.7 assists per game. Dallas looks formidable on paper with Davis, Russell, and Klay Thompson in the mix. While the criticism continues at one end, the expectations on Russell will be high from the Mavericks faithful.
Known for his ability to dribble 3s at ease and read the floor impressively, Russell will be a key starter for Dallas after they failed to make the playoffs last season. In Irving’s absence, Russell will be under immense pressure to deliver. With the No. 1 pick, Cooper Flagg suiting up for the Mavericks, it remains to be seen if they can contend in a stacked Western Conference.
