The NBA offseason is right around the corner, and one of the biggest stories involves a team desperate to turn things around. After a brutal 2024–2025 season, where the Philadelphia 76ers finished 24–58 and missed the playoffs entirely, the franchise isn’t wasting any time gearing up for a comeback.
According to a new insider report, the Sixers may be looking to make a bold move in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Philadelphia 76ers’ Trade Proposal for the San Antonio Spurs
NBA insider Michael Scotto recently reported that the Sixers, who currently own the No. 3 pick, have been in talks with the San Antonio Spurs, who hold the No. 2 selection.
The conversation is centered on a potential trade that would allow Philadelphia to move up one spot — presumably to grab one of the draft’s top prospects.
Sources: The 76ers have engaged with the Spurs about potentially moving up to the No. 2 pick. For now, the Sixers have zeroed in on four NBA Draft prospects with the No. 3 pick, including a private workout last week with VJ Edgecombe and Ace Bailey visiting Philadelphia next week

If the deal goes through, the Sixers are widely expected to target Dylan Harper from Rutgers, who’s projected as the No. 2 prospect behind Cooper Flagg in most mock drafts.
Harper had a standout freshman season, averaging 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Adding him to Philly’s rotation could fast-track their rebuild. With a polished offensive game and the ability to create off the dribble, Harper could ease some of the scoring load from the team’s current stars.
Scotto also noted that the Sixers are doing their homework beyond Harper. They recently held a private workout with Baylor guard V.J. Edgecombe, who averaged 15.0 points in his lone college season.
They’re also planning a visit with another Rutgers standout, Ace Bailey, who impressed scouts by putting up 17.6 points per game. While Harper may be the top target, the Sixers appear to be keeping their options open.
From the Spurs’ side, the proposed deal could help address a roster logjam. Although San Antonio has been linked to Harper, some fans have questioned the fit. The Spurs already feature Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox in the backcourt, making another high-usage guard a tough sell.
Landing a player like Edgecombe, widely viewed as a top-three prospect, could give San Antonio the frontcourt versatility it needs. Edgecombe can play the three, defend multiple positions, and space the floor alongside Victor Wembanyama, the team’s rising star.
It’s possible the Sixers evaluated the Spurs’ depth chart before pitching the deal. And with the 2025 NBA Draft set for June 25, it won’t be long before we find out whether this trade becomes a reality.
