Naz Reid Landing Spots: 5 Free Agency Destinations for the Former Sixth Man of the Year

Which teams could target former Minnesota Timberwolves center and former Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid in the upcoming free agency?

Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid is known as one of the top reserves in the league and won the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2024. His three-point shooting, innate ball-handling ability, and athleticism are extremely impressive for a player his size at 6’9″.

During the 2024-25 season, he averaged 14.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 37.9% from beyond the arc, providing key floor spacing while playing with stars like Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle. He holds a player option this summer worth $15 million, and is almost certain to decline that and explore his value in the open market.

5 Possible Landing Spots for Stretch Big Naz Reid

Brooklyn Nets

Entering the offseason with the most cap space in the league by a mile, the Nets will be included in conversations for nearly every free agent this summer.

That includes Reid, who could serve as Nic Claxton’s backup while potentially sharing the court with him as a spacer on the perimeter. Though the Nets are in rebuilding mode, they already have several high-level role players and could aim to add another with the intention of landing a superstar within the next few years.

Los Angeles Lakers

With next to no depth at the center position, signing Reid could help shore up that spot. The Los Angeles Lakers will likely still intend to add more depth there. Reid’s flashy dribbling moves would fit right in with the glam of Los Angeles while giving him more play time than he’s ever had.

With Luka Doncic now on the roster, whatever big man plays next to him should be expecting to take a lot of open shots. Enter Reid, who would be poised for an explosive mid-career statistics bump and possibly a chance for a Most Improved Player of the Year award.

Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets’ roster is incomplete and lacks depth at nearly every position. A very young team but nearing the time where they’ll be expected to compete for a playoff spot, Reid could step in as the adult in the room while contributing greatly on the court.

Behind, or playing beside, Mark Williams, Charlotte’s center over the course of the last three seasons, Reid would fill a valuable role and be able to play a lot of minutes right away. Williams doesn’t space the floor, but Reid does, which is something point guard LaMelo Ball would likely benefit from.

Memphis Grizzlies

Lacking great depth at the center position, the Memphis Grizzlies could be in the market for Reid’s services this summer. It’d have to come in the form of a sign-and-trade deal, in which Memphis could send out a young talent like Scotty Pippen Jr. to secure the services of the former Sixth Man of the Year.

While Pippen has had a great season, Reid would immediately raise the ceiling for a team that just got swept in the first round. He’d bring a scoring pop off the bench while having the experience from back-to-back trips to the Western Conference Finals.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have everything on the table right now. They can keep their entire young core together and let them grow, or look to free agency to boost a team led by Victor Wembanyama, who has already reached superstardom.

If they choose the latter, trading some young pieces to Minnesota in a sign-and-trade for Reid would be great. He could provide minutes with Wembanyama on the bench and potentially play beside him too, as both can play on the perimeter. The Spurs also need a veteran presence, and Reid would provide just that with the potential departure of Chris Paul from the team.
