Milwaukee Bucks Release 3-Year NBA Player Before Thunder Game

On Tuesday evening, the Milwaukee Bucks and Oklahoma City Thunder will face off in Wisconsin in a preseason contest.

Before their fourth preseason game, the Bucks announced the news that they had waived Jamaree Bouyea (and Cormac Ryan).

“We have waived guards Jamaree Bouyea and Cormac Ryan,” the Bucks announced.

Bouyea is coming off a season in which he appeared in five games for the franchise.

He had averages of 3.4 points and 1.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 50.0% from the field and 20.0% from three-point range.

In addition to the Bucks, the 26-year-old has also spent time playing for the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers, and San Antonio Spurs.

His NBA career averages are 2.8 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 40.7% from the field and 20.0% from three-point range in 19 games.

As BucksRealm noted on October 13, this move was to make room for the signing of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s younger brother, Alex Antetokounmpo. Bouyea averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in his two Summer League appearances with the Bucks.

The former San Francisco star has played a large chunk of his pro career in the G League.

He finished last season with averages of 19.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks per contest while shooting 52.7% from the field and 37.3% from three-point range in 21 games (20 starts).

The Bucks are a perfect 3-0 to start the preseason after most recently defeating the Chicago Bulls by a score of 127-121 (at home).

Following their showdown with the Thunder, they will conclude the preseason. This is a new-look Bucks team that added Myles Turner, Cole Anthony, and Gary Harris, while moving on from Damian Lillard and Brook Lopez.

The Bucks are coming off a year in which they were the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 48-34 record. They ended up getting swept by the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs.

Since the 2021 season (when the Bucks won the NBA Championship over the Phoenix Suns), they have been unable to return to the Eastern Conference finals.

The Bucks will play their first game of the 2025-26 regular season on October 22 when they remain at home to host CJ McCollum and the Washington Wizards.

They also made NBA history by signing Antetokounmpo (after waiving Bouyea).

Via ESPN’s Shams Charania (on October 13): “The Milwaukee Bucks are signing Alex Antetokounmpo to a two-way NBA deal, joining older brothers Giannis and Thanasis, Octagon’s Alex Saratsis tells ESPN. This marks the first time in NBA history that three brothers are on active roster contracts with the same team.”
