Mike Brown Gets Brutally Honest About Knicks Fans’ Relentless Boos As Calls Mount for Change in New York

Following their loss against the Dallas Mavericks, Knicks HC Mike Brown gets candid about fans booing the team.

Despite a No. 3 spot in the Eastern Conference, the New York Knicks might be miles away from actually winning a championship. And while fans were willing to give the team the benefit of the doubt, their four-game losing streak has led to people booing players and head coach Mike Brown.

Having said that, fans are more than just upset at the Knicks, demanding that the front office make a change before the 2025-26 season ends. Brown, of course, was asked about the constant booing the team is currently subjected to.

NY Knicks HC Mike Brown Shares Candid Take on Fans Booing Team

On Monday, January 19, the Knicks suffered an embarrassing 114-97 loss to the No. 12-seeded Dallas Mavericks. And, considering this was the team’s fourth straight loss and its ninth in the last 11 games, fans were understandably upset.

Many booed Brown and the players at the venue, urging the team to do better before the regular season ended.

During a postgame interview, Brown spoke to the media about their game, directly addressing questions about fans’ anger and frustration. As far as the Knicks’ HC is concerned, the fans are right to boo a team when they’re unhappy with them.

“I’m OK with the boos. If we’re playing crappy, boo. If I was in the stands, I’d probably boo, too. You pay hard money to come to the game and this is a form of entertainment for the fans. They know good basketball, they know bad basketball,” Brown said.

Many fans highlighted the team’s poor defense, especially against a low-ranked team like the Mavericks. Some exclusively blamed Brown, hoping the Knicks would realize he cannot play defense as needed.

After their 106-99 loss to the Phoenix Suns at Maddison Square Garden, this was the second home game in which fans booed their team.

Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson both led their team with 22 points each — an indicator that the Knicks aren’t able to utilize their talent well.

Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart React to Constant Boos at Home

Having said that, Brown wasn’t the only one embarrassed by their game against the Mavericks.

Speaking to the media postgame, Josh Hart and Brunson admitted their faults, agreeing that they would also be booing the team if they could.

“We all need to do some soul-searching…. How we’re playing right now is really inexcusable,” Hart said. “Last year, the effort was always there. I haven’t seen this (lack of) effort (before today). It’s embarrassing.”

Brunson, equally frustrated, added, “I would be booing us, too. Straight up.”

Hoping to break out of their slump, the Knicks will face the Brooklyn Nets next on Wednesday, January 21.
