Luka Dončić Snubs Dallas Wings Star Paige Bueckers, Picks His Favorite WNBA Athlete

Luka Dončić, formerly with the Dallas Mavericks, picks his favorite WNBA player, and it's not Dallas Wings No. 1 pick Paige Bueckers.

Luka Dončić has a WNBA favorite, and it’s not Dallas Wings rookie star Paige Bueckers.

Bueckers, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2025, is the new WNBA story maker. Fans are already cooking up rivalries and predicting performances, the community divided between Bueckers and Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark, a WNBA phenom.

Clark, known to have changed the league with her arrival, has even left Dončić impressed.

Luka Dončić Picks Caitlin Clark As His Favorite Over Paige Bueckers

During an interview with Caleb Pressley of Sundae Conversation, the Los Angeles Lakers star was asked about his WNBA star. Without missing a beat, Dončić picked Clark.

The interviewer didn’t give up, bringing up Bueckers as he said:

“Really? You don’t like Paige Bueckers?”

Firm on his opinion, Dončić shrugged and added: “She’s okay. I didn’t see her playing in the women’s NBA, so”

Dončić further mentioned her No. 1 Draft pick, after which Pressley said she will play for the Dallas team.

While Dončić picking Clark might be unrelated, there’s no denying the Dallas connection. A 2018 No. 3 overall pick, the Slovenian spent his entire career with the Dallas Mavericks before being traded to the LA Lakers on February 2, 2025.

The blockbuster trade sent shockwaves through the sports world, with many unable to believe that Dončić was no longer in Dallas. Fans quickly turned on the team, referring to the Mavs as the worst team in Dallas.

Despite being unable to win a title yet, Dončić was seen as a franchise legend by many.

However, Bueckers being drafted to the Wings has brought back hope to Dallas basketball fans. In fact, Wings general manager Curt Miller promised he won’t trade Bueckers after she was picked.

Dončić Has Previously Praised Clark’s Game, Compared Her to Stephen Curry

While he hasn’t declared his WNBA favorite, Dončić has previously praised Clark and her ever-evolving game.

Speaking to the media about Clark in 2024, the then-Mavericks star only had good words for the young talent.

“That’s the women’s Steph Curry. She can shoot it better than me,” Dončić said.

Clark, an Iowa graduate, was making noise ever since her college years. Her transition to the WNBA was seamless, with people selling out arenas and games hoping to see their new favorite. In fact, Clark also helped raise the overall WNBA viewership.

With Bueckers on board, the WNBA continues to chase new heights, with players hoping for massive payouts and increased following throughout the league.
