Luka Dončić has been listed as questionable for the upcoming Los Angeles Lakers lineup as they are set to host the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. The Slovenian player has been nothing but the most dominant in the league, leading in scoring and helping the Lakers ride a winning streak, except for the game against the Pistons.
Luka Dončić Listed as Questionable for Lakers’ Matchup with Nets
Dončić has risen as a premier star, surpassing several big names, and is now ready to give Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, and Victor Wembanyama a run for their money in the NBA MVP race. He has been the primary scorer for the Lakers, carrying a heavy offensive load while delivering high-level playmaking.
The 27-year-old also notched 60 points against the Miami Heat, marking the first time a Lakers player has recorded such a stat line since Kobe Bryant in 2016.
The shooting guard was also a force to be reckoned with in the Lakers-Pacers game, ending the six-game road trip with a win. Dončić tallied 43 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, leading the team 137-130. LeBron James, who embraced the secondary scoring role, added 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists for a near triple-double.
Austin Reaves and Jaxson Hayes also contributed on the scoreboard. As the Lakers prepare to face the Nets, they take on an Eastern Conference team that is not entirely last in the league but is still considered one of the worst this season.
According to reports, Dončić has been listed as “questionable” due to left hamstring soreness, and his status will be updated before tipoff. Therefore, his MVP contention may also be in jeopardy if he doesn’t play in four more games to receive votes.
In his absence, James will be without the team’s cornerstone playmaker to create scoring opportunities.
The Lakers star, who has been unstoppable this season after his shift from the Dallas Mavericks, matched a rare feat in the recent win over the Pacers. His 43-point display marked the first time a player averaged over 40 points in six consecutive road games since the great Michael Jordan did it in 1986.
He led the Los Angeles team to an impressive 4-2 record on the road stretch, tallying an overall average of 40.7 points in Houston, Miami, Orlando, Detroit, and Indiana. They are now third in the Western Conference and a promising team to contend in the playoffs.
The 27-year-old has made six NBA All-Star games and five All-NBA First Team selections and was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2019.
He only lacks an NBA title, which has a strong chance of coming his way this year.
