NBA World Reacts to LeBron James Breaking Own Record for Oldest Player to Post a Triple-Double: ‘ELITE HOOPS AT 41’

LeBron James extended his record as the NBA's oldest player to record a triple-double during the Lakers' win over the Wizards.

The Los Angeles Lakers were without Luka Dončić for Monday night’s matchup against the Washington Wizards, placing the spotlight firmly on LeBron James to deliver. As he has done time and again, the veteran superstar rose to the occasion.

James put together another remarkable performance, recording a triple-double to lead the Lakers to a 120-101 victory while once again rewriting the record books as the oldest player in NBA history to achieve the feat.

LeBron James Extends Triple-Double Record in Lakers’ Win over Wizards

With Luka Dončić serving a one-game suspension after picking up his 16th technical foul against the Brooklyn Nets on March 27, LeBron James stepped up in a big way, delivering his third triple-double of the season and the 125th of his career.

James finished with 21 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds, along with a block, putting together an efficient outing while once again making history. At 41 years and 90 days old, he extended his own record as the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, leaving the basketball world in awe.

Social media quickly lit up in response to the performance. Real App pointed out the longevity of his greatness, writing, “LeBron James has the 5th most triple-doubles in the NBA in 2026… he’s 41 years old.”

Legion Hoops highlighted both the stat line and the significance of the moment, posting, “LEBRON JAMES TONIGHT: 21 POINTS, 12 ASSISTS, 10 REBOUNDS, 8/16 FG. ELITE HOOPS AT 41 YEARS OLD. 🤯”

Popular Lakers fan page LakeShowYo urged fans to appreciate what they are witnessing: “DON’T TAKE LEBRON FOR GRANTED…WE WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER 41 YEAR OLD DO THIS AGAIN 🤯 👑.”

Lakers beat reporter Mike Trudell also emphasized the historic nature of the night, noting that it was James’ third triple-double of the season and 125th overall, further extending his own age-related record.

Meanwhile, Lakers Nation managing editor Daniel Starkand pointed out the irony of the moment, writing, “LeBron James has passed LeBron James as the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double.”

Beyond the milestone, James’ performance also served as another reminder that he still belongs at the top. It also helped silence lingering concerns about his fit alongside Dončić and Austin Reaves, with the Lakers now 9-1 since his return from a brief injury absence.

“Remember when people said LeBron James didn’t fit in with Luka-Reaves and the Lakers? They’re now 9-1 since LeBron returned. ✍️✍️✍️,” Legion Hoops wrote.

For the season, James is averaging 20.9 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists per game while shooting 51.2% from the field and 31.4% from 3-point range. With the win, the Lakers improved to 49-26 and remain firmly in third place in the Western Conference.

They will look to carry that momentum forward when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on the second night of a back-to-back.
