Ascending Western Conference Team Predicted To Pull Off Shocking LeBron James Trade To Become a Contender

Find out more on another NBA team with a good chance to acquire LeBron James from the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason.

LeBron James’ future with the Los Angeles Lakers continues to look uncertain with each passing day in the offseason, and the latest reports predict that an ascending Western Conference team might just be able to pull off a trade for the four-time NBA champion.

When James’ side revealed that he was looking to join any team that gave him a “realistic” chance at contending for a title, rumors regarding his potential departure to another organization had already begun to gain momentum.

After Luka Dončić signed a three-year maximum contract extension with the Lakers for $165 million, it became clearer that James is unlikely to end his career with the Lakers and could even be traded before this season. Given that James has a no-trade clause in his contract, fans must wonder which team has a legitimate chance at acquiring him.

What Can the San Antonio Spurs Offer the Lakers for LeBron James?

Since Dončić is only 26 years old and has yet to officially enter his prime, the Lakers have to build their roster around the young NBA superstar. Although James and Dončić can be considered similar in terms of playstyle, the supporting cast that they require to find success is significantly different.

While James has thrived with shooters around him, Dončić requires more athleticism and defensive skills alongside him, as we saw during his 2024 run to the NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks. As a result, a trade that sends James to the Spurs might be able to help both sides get closer to contending for an NBA championship.

In this potential trade, the San Antonio Spurs would send Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, a 2031 first-round pick swap with the Sacramento Kings (that San Antonio acquired in the DeMar DeRozan trade), and a 2032 first-round pick swap to the Lakers in return for LeBron James and Bronny James.

The Lakers would get a horde of young talent from the Spurs and future draft assets, while the Spurs would have a chance to pair the four-time NBA champion with Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox.

Although this move might shorten the Spurs’ championship window, it might just be worth it given that Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals. He would have undoubtedly won the DPOY award had he not sustained deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, which sidelined him towards the end of the season.

In any case, the Lakers will be looking to move LeBron James before the end of this season, as letting him walk after his contract expires would mean that they get nothing in return. Fans are left wondering how James’ situation with them will unfold in the near future.
