LeBron James Sends Heartfelt Praise for Wife Savannah’s I Promise School Charity Efforts

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James took a moment to praise his wife, Savannah, for an initiative she undertook at the "I Promise School."

“You know, God gave me a gift to do other things besides play the game of basketball,” LeBron James once said. He’s now proving it with his and his family’s good deeds.

This season has been a spectacle for the James’ household. Bronny James dropped his first career-high 17 points in a dazzling performance against the Milwaukee Bucks on March 20 while James showed his prowess with a season high of 42 points on February 6.

But while the father-son duo continues to dominate the hardwood, their biggest win came far away from the bright lights of the arena. It came from a heartfelt moment off the court, where James took to Instagram to celebrate the quiet yet powerful work of his wife.

LeBron James Was in Awe of His Wife’s Initiative at the ‘I Promise School

James posted a heartfelt Instagram story praising his wife, Savannah, for her latest charitable initiative at the “I Promise School” — a project that once again reflects the James family’s commitment to community and compassion.

In partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation, the initiative serves at-risk children in grades 1 through 8, with a focus on social-emotional learning and a strategic approach to its trauma-informed curriculum.

“@mrs_savannahrj… The love you show those young women will last,” wrote James as the caption of his story.

The initiative? Savannah made sure that every senior female student at the “I Promise School” received a beautiful prom dress, completely free of charge. It’s more than just a dress. It’s a gesture that tells these young women they are seen, valued, and worthy of feeling special on one of the most memorable nights of their lives.

“PROM Promise has always been a special moment of confidence, a space of love, and a sisterhood of support for our seniors. With the help of @lindes_bridalshop, each girl found a dress that made her feel confident.”

“And with that, they didn’t just receive beautiful dresses for prom, they received encouragement and belief that they are special, worthy, and enough. Because when you feel confident in who you are, you shine. 🌟 Thank you, @mrs_savannahrj, for pouring into these young women and reminding them of their beauty, inside and out,” read the caption of the original post by the official account of the LeBron James Family Foundation.

The “I Promise School,” which opened its doors in 2018 in Akron, Ohio, was built from the ground up as a passion project of the James’ family. Co-founded by James and Savannah, the school is more than an educational institution — it’s a symbol of hope.

Designed for at-risk children, the school offers free uniforms, food for families, career placement services, bikes and helmets for each student, transportation for qualified individuals, and GEDs and job placement services.

While James continues to chase greatness on the court, he’s equally vocal about giving credit where it’s due off the court. This public appreciation of Savannah’s efforts isn’t just sweet, it’s strategic. It shows that in the James household, wins come in many forms: points scored, lives changed, and love shown.

Student Gets Kudos From LA Lakers Superstar

Through various social media posts James has consistently shared updates about the progress and initiatives of his “I Promise School” giving fans and followers a glimpse into the powerful impact it’s making.

Last year, the Los Angeles Lakers’ legend took a special moment to celebrate a major milestone as he congratulated one of the school’s first students to graduate from college.

Anthony Claytor, from Akron, Ohio, was part of the inaugural class when the “I Promise School” opened its doors in 2018. In 2023, he made history by becoming the first student from that class to earn a bachelor’s degree as he graduated from Kent State University.

James proudly took to his X account to praise Claytor’s accomplishment, calling it a proud moment for the entire “I Promise” community.

“CONGRATULATIONS ANTHONY!!!! SO PROUD OF YOU YOUNG 🤴🏾!!!!!!!” wrote James.

Back in 2020, James’s foundation had pledged full four-year scholarships to all 193 students in the school’s first class, covering their tuition at Kent State University. Additionally, they received one year of free housing and meals, lifting major financial burdens and paving the way for success. With this kind of support system and belief behind them, the future for “I Promise” students looks bright.
