LeBron James Sends a Message to Myles Garrett After Browns Star Makes NFL History

LeBron James was as happy as the rest of the world when Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett made NFL history.

LeBron James has played for several teams during his career, but his loyalties still seem to remain most closely tied to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Akron, Ohio, native loves to stay in touch with what’s happening close to home, and he made sure to do so yet again after history was made in the NFL on Sunday.

LeBron James Appreciates Myles Garrett’s Greatness

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett set an NFL record in the last quarter of the regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals when he compiled his 23rd sack of the season.

His takedown of Joe Burrow broke Michael Strahan’s record with the New York Giants and T.J. Watt’s record with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both players had 22.5 sacks in 2001 and 2021, respectively.

James posted on X right away after the accomplishment: “CONGRATULATIONS MY GOOD BROTHER!!!!!!! @Flash_Garrett 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💪🏾”

If somebody can understand what it takes to break a record, it’s LeBron James. The 41-year-old NBA legend has played for 23 seasons and rewritten the NBA record book in the process. James’ biggest record and most unbreakable one might be his all-time scoring mark.

James is currently standing at 42,519 career points. He broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record back in February 2023. Garrett’s sack record isn’t for his career, but a single-season record is just as iconic in many cases.

James just made more history himself this week when he became the only player over the age of 41 to record a 30-point game. It seems like James finds ways to make his mark seemingly every time he steps on the floor in his 40s, since most players never make it this far in their sporting careers.

As for Garrett and whether he can eventually become the all-time sack leader in an NFL career, the Cleveland Browns’ icon currently has 125.5 sacks. The record is 200 sacks by Bruce Smith. Garrett is 20th on the all-time list at the moment.

Garrett was stuck on 22 after being blanked last week in the penultimate game of the regular season. However, he was determined to capture the record this week.

“I still had the utmost confidence in myself and my preparation,” Garrett said after the game. “And then my guys, man. I couldn’t do it without them. They were supporting me – trying to find ways to free me up, get the chips off me, get the doubles off. Eventually, we just made it happen.”

Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski has all praise after the milestone. “That’s history,” Stefanski said. “I mean, he’s the sack king. That’s unbelievable. They’ve been playing this game for a long time, and for him to go get that in the circumstances with the degree of difficulty in which he got it this season is unbelievable.”
