Normally, when an NBA player reaches his 40s, the number of suitors and free-agency options dwindle. However, LeBron James is not a normal player. At 41 years old, James has no shortage of suitors as an unrestricted free agent.
Now, one of James’ former teammates offered his take on where the NBA legend will play next.
LeBron James’ Ex-Teammate Thinks NBA Icon Will Sign with Golden State
Mario Chalmers won back-to-back championships with James when they were members of the Miami Heat. Now, Chalmers told Ratings.com where he believes James will land.
“I give him two to three more years, and I want to [say] Miami, but I have a gut feeling that it might be Golden State,” Chalmers asserted. There has been a lot of speculation that this will be James’ final season, but Chalmers believes he could have more left in the tank.
While Chalmers’ gut tells him that James will sign with Golden State, he mentioned that he would love to see James head back to South Beach, articulating why Miami would make a lot of sense.
“It would be the ideal landing spot,” Chalmers said of James potentially joining the Heat. “I really think it’s between Golden State and Miami just by knowing Bron and being his teammate before and the way he approaches the game. Those are the two spots where I think he has the best chance of winning…
“I think [Miami] would definitely be a good landing spot for him, especially in a win-now situation. It’ll definitely be interesting. But I want to see where he’s thinking, just because of what the King brings to a team at this age.”
Chalmers also talked about how a trio of James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Bam Adebayo would work together under head coach Erik Spoelstra.
“He’s gonna be a spot-up shooter, another person that is gonna be wanting to be down in the paint a little bit, so it’s gonna be up to Spo to make that all work with Bam, Giannis, and Bron all in the paint,” Chalmers said.
James would like to head off into the metaphorical sunset with one more championship. Chalmers believes that only two teams in the NBA have the combination of coaching and talent to achieve James’ goal.
Even if Miami doesn’t land James, Chalmers believes the new-look Heat can be a top team in the Eastern Conference.
“They’re definitely a top-three or four team in the East,” he said. “That Boston trade was a big trade. I think Philly might be the No. 1 team in the East on paper until all the teams are complete. But for Miami, they added some shooters around here. Tim Hardaway Jr. was a decent pickup for a shooter, and they’re right there in the top three teams in the East.”
