Lakers Superstar Luka Dončić Makes Hilarious Admission Ahead of Upcoming Raptors Matchup

The Toronto Raptors have been one of the NBA’s biggest surprises this season, defying expectations on both ends of the court. However, don’t ask Los Angeles Lakers superstar guard Luka Dončić for insight on the league’s lone squad north of the border.

After Monday’s 125-108 blowout home loss to the Phoenix Suns, Dončić made a humorous admission about his NBA fandom while previewing Thursday’s road clash against Toronto.

Luka Dončić Appears Oblivious When Asked About Raptors’ Early-Season Success

Dončić once again got off to a hot start against Phoenix by scoring 20 of his game-high 38 points in the first quarter. Meanwhile, LA caught a break early on, with Suns star shooting guard Devin Booker exiting with 2:05 remaining in the opening period due to a right groin injury.

Still, the Lakers, playing their third game in four nights, ran out of gas, falling behind by as many as 25 points to their shorthanded opponent en route to a 17-point defeat. Suns wing Dillon Brooks and guard Collin Gillespie combined for 61 points as Phoenix improbably snapped LA’s seven-game winning streak.

The Lakers now have a couple of days off before kickstarting their upcoming three-game road trip against Toronto. After managing just 30 wins last season, the Raptors have gotten out to a hot 14-7 start thanks to the integration of star wing Brandon Ingram’s tough shot-making and their feisty defense and strong ball movement.

Even so, when asked during Monday’s postgame interview, “what stands out” to him about Toronto’s season “up to this point,” Dončić went wide-eyed for a few seconds before answering. The five-time All-Star then comically disclosed that he hasn’t been paying the closest attention to what’s been going on around the league.

“I don’t watch much NBA, sorry,” Dončić said. ” I know they have a good record; I love the coach they have. I know he has them playing physical. But we will see in the scouting report.”

Fortunately for Dončić, he was able to offer some kind words about Raptors coach Darko Rajaković, whose infectious energy has gone viral on multiple occasions. The third-year Serbian coach has emerged as one of the early 2025-26 Coach of the Year frontrunners, with Toronto unexpectedly occupying a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference.

Dončić’s limited knowledge of NBA-wide happenings seemingly hasn’t affected his on-court production, though. With his 38-point showing against Phoenix, the 26-year-old padded his lead atop the league’s leading scorers. He is now averaging an eye-popping 35.3 points per game through 16 outings entering Thursday’s showdown vs. the Raptors.
