LeBron James has experienced a lot of things throughout his legendary NBA career. He continues to have those moments in his record-setting 23rd season at age 41 as the Los Angeles Lakers’ veteran superstar.
Knowing how important his knowledge will be to the younger players in the sport, James gave some advice to Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton.
The Advice LeBron James Gave to Tyrese Haliburton
James is halfway through the 23rd season of his career, his eighth with the Lakers. Having shattered multiple records and achieved numerous feats, the veteran star will be in the Hall of Fame when he decides to walk away from the game.
In the meantime, James continues to enjoy his time as one of the best players in the league for his age. His incredible experience and ability to adapt to the modern era have enabled him to extend his career significantly.
James hosted a new episode of his Mind The Game podcast, featuring Haliburton as a special guest on Jan. 27. They discussed multiple topics throughout the show, including James’ advice to the Pacers star on adapting to the ever-changing landscape of the league.
“Seeing how the pace itself today has completely changed, you have to be able to kind of adjust with the times while you’re getting older and how can you still be effective with the game changing. And so for me, it was like, ‘Okay, how can I still be effective off the ball.’ My usage rate is down a lot more now today than it was in the past, as far as just handling the ball,” James said.
“I think the most important reason, man, as you get to continue to get older and you listen to your body. How can you still be effective on the court, but also just having a growth mindset to know that, listen, it’s 2026 right now, which sounds crazy to me, I came in ’03, you know. But the game in 2029 could look different then, right now. So you have to have that type of growth mindset.”
James and the Lakers Look Forward To Climbing the West Rankings
James hopes the next generation of NBA stars shines as he did. It requires intense dedication to the game while taking care of their health in the best ways possible.
In the meantime, James will look to help Los Angeles have a high seed in the playoff picture. The team boasts a 28-17 record so far this season, sitting in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. They are one game above the Minnesota Timberwolves and 1.5 games above the Phoenix Suns. However, they trail the Houston Rockets by 0.5 games and the Denver Nuggets by 2.5 games.
The Lakers are halfway through their long eight-game trip, beginning the second half of that slate. They face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. ET and the Washington Wizards on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. ET.
