LeBron James’ future continues to be the talking point well after the Los Angeles Lakers’ elimination from the Conference semifinals.
Former Laker James Worthy was the latest to share his two cents on James’ next landing spot, and while at it, had a subtle message for the Lakers front office.

James Worthy Weighs In on LeBron James’ Chances of Staying As a Laker
Speaking on ‘The Kevin O’Connor Show,’ the former Lakers legend weighed in on James’ landing spots. Worthy didn’t rule out the Lakers, but believed the money would be a major factor. The Lakers will already be aware of what Reaves could command this offseason ahead of free agency.
“I didn’t see too many players that played better than he did this year. And when I looked at his numbers and I look at Shai’s [Gilgeous-Alexander] numbers… I haven’t seen any athlete like this. He loves LA, his family loves LA and I think if the price is right… but he’s a max player.
“He’s [LeBron James] a max player. The question is he willing to not be a max player and take less.”

“The question is, is he willing to not be a max player and take less? Worthy asked. “Otherwise, I don’t know because if he’s got to get paid and Austin’s [Reaves] got to get paid, then we’re gonna have to deal with a similar situation we did this year, which wasn’t bad. The Dodgers are coming in now with all the analytics and new people that are so smart. So we’ll see some changes, I believe.”
At the time of writing, rumor mills are churning about the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers as interested parties in acquiring James. The Warriors had previously made an unsuccessful bid for the four-time NBA world champion, looking to pair him with Stephen Curry.
James, 41, just finished his 23rd season in the league, averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game. While returning to the Lakers might be an obvious choice, he may also retire after 23 seasons.
As for the Lakers, they are linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo along with the likes of the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics. Per The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Eric Nehm, the Heat was one of the frontrunners.
“The noise surrounding the Miami Heat and Antetokounmpo remains louder than all the rest,” The Athletic reported. “Many people around the league, from agents to executives, continue to believe that Antetokounmpo will end up in Miami when this saga finally comes to an end.”
Only time will tell if James decides to call time on his illustrious career, or maybe head back to the Cavaliers for what will be one final stint with the side looking to win their second championship.
