Kon Knueppel appears on the Charlotte Hornets’ injury report ahead of their home game against the Sacramento Kings on March 24. Here is the latest update on his playing status.
Charlotte Hornets Injury Report: Kon Knueppel’s Status vs. Kings
Charlotte has two players on the injury report before it takes on Sacramento tonight. The Hornets ruled Tidjane Salaün out due to a calf injury. However, Knueppel still seems likely to play with a probable designation. He is dealing with low back soreness.
Knueppel possibly picked up the injury during the two days off after Charlotte beat the Memphis Grizzlies 124-101 on March 21. However, the rookie played only 21 minutes in that contest, scoring nine points, dishing five assists, and grabbing three rebounds. He struggled, but the Hornets did not say whether his limited minutes were due to injury or to the blowout.
Knueppel’s impressive rookie campaign has him right with his former Duke University teammate Cooper Flagg in the Rookie of the Year race. The Hornets guard/forward averages 19.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists this season.
He was arguably the best shooter in the 2025 NBA Draft, and he certainly has not disappointed in this area. Knueppel shoots an efficient 48.8% from the field and 43.4% on 8.0 attempts from beyond the arc.
If he plays against Sacramento, he will likely find a lot of open looks. The Kings rank 28th with a defensive rating of 119.8. They also give up the second-highest opponent 3-point shooting efficiency at 37.3%.
In contrast, Charlotte ranks first, second, and third in 3-point makes, attempts, and efficiency, respectively. Kings-Hornets could result in a second consecutive blowout home victory.
While Knueppel’s perimeter marksmanship is his main calling card, the 20-year-old is more than a specialist. He possesses a smooth handle and runs the pick-and-roll with patience beyond his years.
It often takes young guards a long time to “slow down” as they adjust to the speed of NBA competition. However, Knueppel has shown an excellent ability to play under control when defenders pressure him.
How Kon Knueppel Has Fueled the Charlotte Hornets’ Turnaround
The Hornets started the 2025–26 campaign slowly. They were 13-25 on Jan. 8, and injuries to LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller hurt them early in the season.
However, Charlotte went on a nine-game streak from Jan. 22 to Feb. 7 to turn its season around. Knueppel’s offensive production plays a huge role as the Hornets fight to earn a postseason spot.
Four of the Hornets’ five starters can handle the rock and shoot it from outside: Ball, Knueppel, Miller, and Miles Bridges. This presents a tough challenge for opposing defenses because they cannot hide a weak defender among those four players.
When one has the ball, the other three space the floor and spread the opposition thin. Charlotte’s high-octane offense ranks fifth in offensive rating at 117.9 for the campaign.
