For the second straight game, the New York Knicks staged an improbable comeback to defeat the Boston Celtics and take a commanding 2-0 series lead.
The Knicks fell behind the Celtics by 20 in game 1 before rallying to force overtime and earn a 108-105 victory to steal game 1 in TD Garden. Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby each scored 29 points while Mikal Bridges had a key steal of Jaylen Brown on the last play of regulation to seal the victory.
In Wednesday night’s game 2, the Celtics again looked like the superior team for much of the game. However, the Knicks, following the advice of big man Karl Anthony Towns, again rallied from 20 points down to earn the victory.
Trailing by 16 with just 8:40 to play, the Knicks went on a 21-2 run to take an 89-86 lead. The Celtics got two free throws from Jayson Tatum, a stop on the other end and then a dunk by Tatum to regain the lead, 90-89, with 18.1 seconds to play.
Brunson was fouled on the other end and hit both free throws to give the Knicks a one-point lead with 12.1 seconds to player. Then it was Bridges, who made another fantastic defensive play, this time stealing the ball from Tatum to clinch another victory.
Bridges scored all 14 of his points in the fourth quarter. Towns had 21 points and 17 rebounds while Josh Hart had a game-high 23 points and Brunson added 17.
Brown and Derrick White led the Celtics with 20 points apiece while Tatum finished with 13 points (on 5-of-19 shooting) and 14 rebounds.
Ticket prices For Game 3 Through The Roof
The excitement surrounding the Knicks may be the highest it has been in nearly 25 years now that they have taken a 2-0 series lead. They will look to take a stranglehold on the Celtics Saturday when the series shifts to New York for the first time. Ticket prices for Saturday’s matinee at Madison Square Garden prove just how badly fans want to attend this game.
“A look at prices for Game 3 at MSG after Knicks upset Celtics in Game 1: $1,100: Get-in price for a pair on @TickPick $109,082: Cost for pair of courtside tickets”
Obviously, courtside seats going for $100,000 sticks out but having to pay over $1,000 just to get into a second round game is wild.
Not only are the Knicks looking to knock off the defending champs, but they are trying to add another notch on their belt in the historic New York-Boston sports rivalry.
If the Knicks can take game 3 and enter game 4 with a chance to close out the series at home, we could see even more insane prices and if the Knicks’ run continues beyond this round, we may see numbers we’ve never come close to seeing before.
Game 3 will tip-off from Madison Square Garden at 3:30 p.m. EST Saturday.
