Kenyon Martin Blasts Rich Paul for Lakers Comments
Even though the Lakers are arguably a legitimate title contender this season, James’ agent and head of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, doesn’t believe the team is good enough to win it all during the 2025-26 campaign, which is something he said publicly on his new podcast Game Over with Max Kellerman.
Paul’s controversial comments have caused quite a stir, sparking reactions by fans, the media and even former players like Kenyon Martin, who didn’t hold back on Gil’s Arena this week.

“When did is it cool for agents to speak in this manner?” Martin said of Paul’s comments about the Lakers. “When did it become okay? They ain’t good enough, what type of [expletive] is that?!”
There’s no question that everyone involved with Klutch Sports, especially Paul, tends to do things their own way and doesn’t care about the potential backlash that comes with comments like these about the Lakers. Clearly, this situation is no different, and Paul is starting to learn the consequences of speaking his mind on a podcast.
As for the Lakers’ chances this season, Paul might have a point, as Los Angeles does seem to be a player away from potentially being mentioned in the same breath as the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, who have lost only one game so far this season.
However, it’s somewhat unusual for an agent as powerful as Paul to make these comments publicly, as it may not be a wise business practice moving forward. It may also be a hint at how James is thinking about his situation with the Lakers, which is what has made Paul’s comments so controversial, with speculation about James’ future with the team and in the NBA being a hot topic of discussion.
