Why Are Teams Targeting Josh Giddey, and What Are the Bulls Thinking?

Giddey and the Bulls front office are locked in contract talks. The team has a deal: $20 million annually for four years. Giddey is holding out, aiming for “in the 30 million” range each season. That gap is what everybody’s watching.

League insider Jake Fisher revealed that multiple Eastern Conference teams have contacted Giddey’s camp about a possible sign-and-trade. “Yet it’s likewise true that more than one rival front office has indicated a reluctance to try to engage the Bulls in sign-and-trade discussions, sources say, with Chicago having messaged for some time that it is not eager to discuss such scenarios,” the insider wrote.

He went on to say that Chicago’s approach to negotiation is part of the story. “The Bulls have been generally known over the past few years as a team that can be challenging to talk with,” Fischer added.

Giddey wrapped up his first year in Chicago after the Bulls traded for him last year. That deal sent point-of-attack defender Alex Caruso out so the team could bring in a floor general. Giddey delivered, averaging 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game on 46.5 percent shooting from the field.

He hit a career-high 37.8 percent from three, spending 30.2 minutes a night in the 2024-25 campaign. Down the stretch, when the regular season heated up, his numbers went up too, posting 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 9.3 assists over his last 15 games.

Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors are said to be “genuinely interested” in adding Giddey to their roster. Fischer noted that Golden State’s interest could hinge on what they decide to do with Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga. The Brooklyn Nets, who have plenty of cap space, are reportedly in the mix too.

If Giddey winds up in Golden State, he would help ease the playmaking load on franchise superstar Stephen Curry. His ability to play both sides of the ball would fit into Steve Kerr’s system. Still, the Bulls have prioritized re-signing Giddey, so fans are watching for their next move.

With his passing skills and the way he reads the court, Giddey is seen as one of the league’s most dependable point guards. His awareness and flexibility make him a versatile option for any team needing a true playmaker. Everybody’s watching Chicago to see what it will take to finally make a deal with Giddey.
