‘Not a Championship-Contending Team’ — Jeremy Lin Pours Cold Water on LeBron James-Warriors Hype Amid Rumors

Former NBA star Jeremy Lin discussed the possibility of LeBron James heading to the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors remain among several teams linked to LeBron James. His decision could come at any time, leading just about everyone to have an opinion on his next destination.

That includes former NBA star Jeremy Lin, who began his career with the Warriors before he became an overnight star in New York City.

Jeremy Lin is Not a Fan of LeBron James’ Move to the Warriors

Lin appeared as a guest on ESPN’s Summer League broadcast of the game between the Warriors and the New York Knicks. When asked about the possibility of James joining Golden State, he had a blunt response that won’t make Warriors fans too happy.

“That’s not a championship contending team, even with LeBron,” Lin said. “I don’t see them beating OKC, I don’t see them beating San Antonio unless there is some serious injuries. I think they need some youth, they some energy, they need some burst, they need multiple guys who are young and can bring a lot of energy.”

Lin shares a popular stance when saying it’s hard to imagine the Warriors or any Western Conference team immediately becoming favorites over the likes of the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs just by adding LeBron.

He also raises the idea that the Warriors need youth at this stage. The former young, upstart team is aging, with Steph Curry and Draymond Green still being the main pieces. Curry is 38, and Green is 36, so adding a 41-year-old James may only hurt the team’s durability.

There is the argument that both the Thunder and Spurs failed to win the title this year. The New York Knicks came out of the East and shocked the world to win it all. Yet it’s fair to note the Spurs and Thunder had a Western Conference Finals for the ages, going all the way to Game 7.

James has one more big decision to make in his career, and the NBA is in a period of limbo until he declares his intentions. Fans in Cleveland, Golden State, Philadelphia, Miami, and even Minnesota believe they have a shot at his services.

But if Lin is to be believed, the Warriors would be better off acquiring younger talent to maximize the final years of Curry and Green before they retire.
