‘Y’all Gonna Get Me Fined’ — Jaylen Brown Calls Out NBA Referees After Controversial Decision

It already feels like it’s going to be a long season for All-Star Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics. The team suffered a tough 105-103 loss to the Utah Jazz in their most recent game, and Brown was involved in a controversial moment at the end of the game as he appeared to be fouled. A frustrated Brown addressed the situation after the game.

What Did Jaylen Brown Say After Tough Celtics Loss?

While speaking to the media after the game, Brown made his feelings clear that the referees missed a call. Brown said, ” Man, y’all gonna get me fined because you can’t make a mistake like that as an official at that point in the game. It’s a minute left in the game, the whole staff blows the call. You know what I mean, it cost us a game. Unacceptable. That’s unacceptable and then they telling me we didn’t see it.”

The Celtics were leading 102-101 with a minute left in the game. Brown was preparing to attack the rim when he was tripped by falling Jazz guard Keyonte George, leading to a turnover. The Jazz would take advantage of the missed foul call, as Lauri Markkanen scored the game-winning basket in transition.

Crew Chief Kevin Scott defended the no-call after the game, saying Brown lost control of the basketball before colliding with George. The frustrating home loss to the Jazz dropped the Celtics to 3-5. They are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference standings.

The team’s struggles are likely to come as no surprise to many fans, analysts, and perhaps even the organization itself. The consensus during the preseason is that this could be a long season for the Celtics, who will be without All-NBA wing Jayson Tatum for the duration of the season as he rehabs a torn Achilles tendon.

The team also said goodbye to several key players from their 2024 NBA championship team, including Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porziņģis, and Al Horford.

Any hope of over-achievement this season rests squarely on Brown’s shoulders. The wing is currently averaging 26.8 points per game on 52.3% shooting from the field. As expected with Tatum unavailable, Brown’s current 33.6% usage rate is the highest of his career. However, his plus/minus rating is essentially neutral, which speaks to the players around him.

Guard Derrick White was viewed as a sleeper All-Star candidate heading into the season, but his efficiency has declined as he’s assumed a larger role. He’s shooting 31 percent from the field this season and 26.3% from three.

Anfernee Simons, who is playing on an expiring contract and is expected to have a short stay in Boston, is shooting 40.8% while having his lowest scoring season in five years. The secondary pieces around Brown have to start playing better, or there will be more frustration this season.
