It was a wildly disappointing end to the season for the Boston Celtics. Despite making it to the playoffs as the second seed without Jayson Tatum in the lineup for most of the season, they blew a 3-1 lead to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round itself.
As a result, speculation has already begun about potential roster changes. One theory making the rounds immediately is a potential Jaylen Brown trade, with the superstar allegedly feeling disgruntled with the franchise, according to Tracy McGrady.

Jaylen Brown Speaks on Celtics Frustration
With Tatum out of the lineup as he recovered from a torn Achilles, Brown became the lone superstar for the Celtics, leading them to 56 wins on the back of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.
As a result, during a previous stream, he claimed that he enjoyed the 2025-26 season more than any other season of his career, including two trips to the NBA Finals and one Larry O’Brien trophy to his name.
Still, a disconnect between the five-time All-Star and the organization seemed to be the precursor for a potential blockbuster move in the offseason. However, going back on his next stream, the two-way star clarified some of the rumors making the rounds in sports media.
“A lot of stuff swirling around the Celtics and the organization. I hate that our president of basketball operations even had to respond to this. Me and Brad have a great relationship. I love Boston. If it was up to me, I could play in Boston for the next 10 years.”
10 minutes of Jaylen Brown addressing his recent comments:

But even with those comments, he wasn’t willing to change his words from last time around. “This was my favorite season of my career. I will say it even louder, I’ll stand on it, I’ll triple down, quadruple down.”
Giving the context behind that idea, he added, “We fought every single day. We fought for everything. I got to see Jayson Tatum come back from an injury, mentally overcome, like what that takes. This is a part of the reason why this was my favorite year. You got to see all of these guys, all of my teammates grow.”
Losing three straight games to the 76ers, it was a rough series for Brown as the number one option. Over the final three games, he averaged a shade over 24 points per game, while shooting under 42% from the field.
That inefficiency reared its head in the final game as well, as the Celtics continually settled for three-pointers despite the game being in the balance, with Philadelphia leading by 1.
While it seems clear that he’s enamored with the Celtics and the city, the franchise’s path moving forward is in question. Running it back doesn’t seem like the ideal choice, but it won’t be easy to find an upgrade in the summer.
