The NBA trade deadline is just three days away, as rumors and speculation are nearing their apex. One of the biggest names linked to a possible move is Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant. While the two-time All-Star is currently out of action with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, a top NBA insider revealed the latest on his trade market.

Ja Morant Remains Available for a Potential Trade
Top NBA insider Shams Charania provided an update on potential trade deadline moves and revealed that Morant is still on the table for interested teams. Charania said, “Ja Morant is someone who has two years left on his contract after this year. The Grizzlies are continuing to field offers and interest in Morant. There is a chance, definitely, that he moves before the deadline.”

Morant is projected to be sidelined for at least another week while recovering from his left elbow sprain, but it appears that hasn’t diminished his trade market at all. He’s averaging 19.5 points and 8.1 assists per game this season, while battling injuries, ineffectiveness, and a brief suspension. Perhaps interested suitors took note of Morant’s last two appearances before his latest injury.
Morant was in vintage form against the Orlando Magic in London on Jan. 18, scoring 24 points and dishing out 13 assists in a win. He had 23 points and 12 assists in a Jan. 21 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Despite those stellar performances, Morant is having the worst season of his career, with career lows in field goal percentage, three-point percentage, true shooting percentage, plus/minus rating, and net rating.
The Grizzlies have also plummeted as a team, losing their last six games to fall out of the Western Conference Play-In Tournament race. At 18-29, perhaps the organization is considering trading Morant and starting over. The Grizzlies have interesting young pieces in Jaylen Wells, Zach Edey, and Cedric Coward that could lead the rebuild. Trading Morant could also make the team’s other multi-time All-Star, Jaren Jackson Jr., available.
As Charania points out, Morant’s contract is another variable to consider. He has two fully guaranteed years left on his $197,230,450 max contract, and there were multiple reports previously that his deal could be a hurdle for some teams that no longer believe he’s worth his salary.
Meanwhile, in an intriguing twist, Morant came up with a cryptic X post on Saturday. “Time tells the truth,” he wrote. That indeed is true, as Morant’s immediate future will become clear in a period of only three days.
