‘IT’S HAPPENING’ — NBA World Reacts to LeBron James’ Stunning Lakers Exit As Warriors Free Agency Rumors Heat UpT

With LeBron James officially moving on from the Los Angeles Lakers, are the rumours about the Golden State Warriors real?

The rumors have been circling for quite some time. With his contract expiring this summer, there was a ton of smoke on what was next for LeBron James. First joining the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, this was his longest continuous stint with a single franchise.

However, with the trade for Luka Dončić, the timeline was entirely reset for the organization. As a result, rumors continued to grow about the four-time NBA champion joining a new team this summer, with the Golden State Warriors looking like a legitimate possibility. Now, after he decided to move on from the Lakers, all the smoke has substance.

LeBron James Needs a New Home

Spending eight seasons with the team, James was a consistent MVP-level player, racking up All-Star and All-NBA selections, while also becoming the all-time leading scorer and winning the fourth championship of his legendary career.

But, as the Lakers reset their timeline, the four-time MVP made his decision to look for new pastures. Senior NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news on the eve of free agency getting underway.

“BREAKING: LeBron James will continue his NBA career for the 2026-27 season and has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that the franchise can move on without him because he will play elsewhere, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN.”

Charania further clarified, “The Lakers expressed to James that they wanted him back, but the NBA’s all-time leading scorer decides to move on elsewhere.” However, some, like LA-based podcaster Daman Rangoola, weren’t buying the official manifesto.

He claimed, “Have heard one thing consistently all year: Lakers just didn’t want him back. Doesn’t matter what they say, it’s true, and I’ll have longer thoughts to share about this, but they better execute on their grand vision that they’ve planned for this offseason if that’s the case.”

It seems improbable that LA would take that approach. Last season, despite battling injuries throughout the year, James was able to embrace a wholly unique role, becoming a legitimate third option for much of the regular season.

But, with the Slovenian superstar getting injured right before the postseason, he defaulted to a first option role once again, taking the Lakers on a miraculous first-round upset over the Houston Rockets.

At 41, though, he might be aiming for a final swansong while having a legitimate chance at a title. The Lakers, as presently constructed, seem to be a notch below the likes of the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference alone.

However, so far this summer, squads like the Spurs, the New York Knicks, the Miami Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Warriors have all been linked to one of the greatest players in NBA history.

Recently, the smoke around a potential move to the Golden State has continued to gain steam. Teaming with another old star in Stephen Curry, alongside a Klutch Sports client in Draymond Green, might be enticing for the veteran as his last stop in the league.

Moreover, he wouldn’t necessarily be the primary decision maker on offense, which could keep him fresher in the playoffs. John Leone of the Utah Chronicles pointed to that speculation, joking, “Welcome to the Warriors, LeBron.”

In recent days, there has been a growing sentiment that the Warriors are trying to take an even larger swing. Alongside their already established trio of Curry, Green, and Jimmy Butler, the team wants to add a set of proven champions in James and Anthony Davis.

It could reunite the 2020 NBA championship duo, and Ricky G is starting to buy into the hype. “This is getting interesting, there is loud noises on AD and Lebron to the Warriors!!”

He wasn’t the only one, though, who made the connection. Even Thunder fans were quick to assume, “Wow, he’s gonna be a Golden State Warrior,” as Big Cat of Barstool Sports argued, “So the Warriors stuff is real?”

It remains to be seen if teaming up with one of his biggest rivals, a team he fought against four consecutive times in the NBA Finals, is going to be his final pitstop in the league. But on paper, the idea of James going to the Warriors is an extremely enticing proposition.
