Is OG Anunoby Playing In Game 3? Latest Injury Update On Knicks Star For Game 3 Clash vs. 76ers

OG Anunoby is questionable for Knicks-Sixers Game 3 with a "very, very minor" right hamstring strain, but sources say it won't be a long recovery.

The Knicks are heading to Philadelphia with a 2-0 series lead and all the momentum in the world. But there is one question swirling around everything they have built in this postseason. That is regarding starter OG Anunoby, who may be sidelined for Game 3.

Game 3 tips off Friday night at 7 p.m. ET at Wells Fargo Center, and the most important update New York needs right now is on Anunoby’s injury.

What Is OG Anunoby’s Injury Status?

According to New York Post reporter Stefan Bondy, Anunoby is dealing with a right hamstring strain that is described as “very, very minor” and is being classified as day-to-day.

Bondy noted that despite the natural skepticism that comes with any hamstring injury given traditional recovery timelines, the optimism is genuine, pointing out that Anunoby even attempted a dunk right after the incident before signaling for a substitution.

He will be listed as questionable for Game 3, and sources told Bondy this is not expected to be a long-term issue. ESPN’s Shams Charania separately confirmed the diagnosis and echoed that the strain is not considered serious.

That is about as encouraging a hamstring update as you can get, but any time that word enters a conversation during the playoffs, there is some major doubt.

This is the same leg that had fans worried when Anunoby missed significant time in the postseason. The hope is that the severity is minor and that the day-to-day designation reflects reality rather than usual injury report caution.

He is averaging 21.4 points per game while shooting an impressive 61.9 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from three on 4.9 attempts per game.

He finished Game 2 with 24 points, five rebounds, and four steals in 37 minutes before the injury, and the Knicks outscored the Sixers by 12 in his time on the floor.

If Anunoby cannot play on Friday, Mikal Bridges slides into a bigger role, Landry Shamet and Jordan Clarkson provide bench shooting depth. The Knicks also have Josh Hart listed as questionable with a thumb sprain and Mitchell Robinson as probable after an illness kept him out of Game 2.

Philadelphia needs something to swing this series back in their direction, and if Anunoby is limited or absent at Wells Fargo Center, the Sixers will have exactly the advantage they are looking for. Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey should be able to capitalize on Anunoby’s absence, if it comes to that in Game 3.
