Joel Embiid returned from a one-game illness absence in the 76ers’ and Timberwolves’ matchup on April 3 and recorded a double-double. With 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists, he helped the 76ers register a 115-103 victory over the Wolves.
But he was then ruled out against the Pistons on April 4 for right oblique injury management and illness. An oblique strain on February 28 sidelined him for 12–13 straight games this season. Embiid’s presence is crucial, as he is the 76ers’ key to their playoff hopes.

Joel Embiid’s Injury Status for 76ers vs Spurs
Despite the 7-time All-Star’s absence in Saturday’s game against the Pistons, the 76ers’ latest injury update brings good news for Sixers nation: Joel Embiid is not ruled out for Monday’s clash against the San Antonio Spurs.
According to the team’s latest injury report for Monday, April 6, Joel Embiid is given a green light and is officially available to play.
“Embiid (oblique) has been removed from the injury report ahead of Monday’s game against the Spurs. Embiid skipped the second leg of a back-to-back set Saturday for rest purposes, but he’ll be back in action Monday evening, which should shift Andre Drummond back to the second unit. There will also be fewer minutes available for Adem Bona with Embiid active,” reported Rotowire.
The medical staff’s decision to sideline Embiid over the weekend appears to have been purely precautionary, ensuring the 2022-23 MVP is well-rested and is ready for the high-stakes showdown against the Spurs.
Joel Embiid’s Return Crucial for 76ers’ High-Stakes Clash Against Spurs
With Embiid on the floor, the 76ers are a different team. In 37 games this season, he has averaged 26.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.1 blocks while shooting 49.1%. His paint presence counters the Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama, who averages 24.9 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 3.1 blocks on 50.9% shooting.
Both teams enter this contest following losses. The 76ers (43-35) suffered a 93-116 defeat at the hands of the Pistons and look to rebound and stay ahead of the 7th-place Raptors (43-35) in the playoff race. The Spurs (59-19) also came off a 134-136 overtime loss to the Nuggets on April 4. The loss snapped the Spurs’ 11-game win streak.
A healthy Joel Embiid on the hardwood will provide a gravity for the 76ers to open up the perimeter, making them a much more dangerous team as they head into the Frost Bank Center to face off against the Western Conference leaders on April 6, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET.
It will surely be an interesting clash to watch, as one of the best big men gears up to face the current MVP contender.
