The Houston Rockets suffered a monumental collapse against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. The shocking loss quickly became the center of attention, as several media personalities shared their insights on social media.
How NBA Media Reacted to the Rockets’ Overtime Loss to the Timberwolves
For most of Wednesday’s game, it looked like the Rockets were right on the Timberwolves’ heels. Except for a few moments in the third quarter and once late in the fourth, the Timberwolves held a narrow lead.
Still, the game went into overtime, tied at 95. Once the extra period started, it almost looked like Houston was ready to take over the game. They began by scoring 13 unanswered points, and it looked like they were on their way to a win.
However, that lead disappeared just as quickly as it had been established. In fact, after the 13-0 run, Houston failed to score another basket, and the Wolves somehow managed to win 110-108.
The Rockets’ massive collapse led several NBA media personalities to comment on the game.
“This Rockets team is hilarious,” ClutchPoints’ Tomer Azarly said.
“Rockets blow this game in stunning fashion after a furious comeback to end the 4th quarter and a 13-0 run to start overtime. Rockets went without a point over the final 3 minutes of overtime,” The Athletic’s Will Guillory posted.
“Blowing a 13-point lead in OVERTIME might be a death blow to the Houston Rockets’ season. What a disaster,” Utah Jazz insider Ben Anderson posted.
“Absolutely wild game. Wolves 110, Rockets 108,” Wolves reporter Dane Moore said.
“Has a team ever lost after starting overtime on a 13-0 run?” Adam Spolane asked.
The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski provided an answer to that in his post, saying, “The Timberwolves are the first team since 2002-03 (as far back as we have pbp data) to win a game after trailing by 13+ points in OT.”
Krawczynski also posted, “That’s the win of the season right there for the Timberwolves. My goodness.”
This collapse seems even more improbable when considering the events that happened late in the game. With just a little under four minutes left, Houston was still trailing 93-82, which was the Wolves’ biggest lead in the game.

With the little time they had left, the Rockets were able to chip away at the 11-point lead. Then, with nine seconds left, Rudy Gobert fouled out. Later, Naz Reid was ejected in the extra period with over four minutes still remaining.
With the Wolves’ significantly weakened interior presence and their strong start in OT, it seemed like the game was in the bag for Houston.
However, the game featured one of the most unlikely comebacks, which will surely be talked about in the coming days.
