‘Hot Garbage’ — NBA World Reacts as LeBron James Has Arguably His ‘WORST PLAYOFF GAME’ Ever in Lakers’ Game 4 Loss

LeBron James' "forgettable" Game 4 performance sparks ridicule as the Lakers squander a prime chance to close out the Rockets.

After turning back the clock over his first three outings of the 2026 NBA playoffs, LeBron James hit a major speed bump in Sunday’s 115-96 Game 4 road loss to the Houston Rockets, delivering one of the worst performances of his illustrious 23-year career.

As James’ struggles helped Houston cut the Los Angeles Lakers’ lead in the first-round Western Conference series to 3-1, the NBA world offered rare criticism of the star forward.

LeBron James’ ‘Forgettable’ Game 4 Performance Triggers Ridicule

James entered Sunday having scored at least 19 points in each of the first three contests of the series, averaging 28.5 points per night across LA’s Game 2 and Game 3 victories. In Friday’s 112-108 Game 3 comeback win, the four-time MVP also hit a clutch 3-pointer to force overtime, paving the way for the Lakers to secure a commanding 3-0 series edge.

However, Sunday was a completely different story, as James and Co. couldn’t match Houston’s desperation.

Facing elimination with their top scorer, Kevin Durant (ankle), sidelined, the Rockets received a well-rounded team effort. Each member of their starting five recorded at least 16 points, led by wing Amen Thompson’s game-high 23-point effort on 10-for-16 shooting (62.5%).

Conversely, the undermanned Lakers, once again operating without star playmakers Luka Dončić (hamstring) and Austin Reaves (oblique), struggled to generate offense, looking uncharacteristically lackadaisical.

James finished with just 10 points, which tied his third-lowest single-game playoff scoring total ever, 4 rebounds, and 9 assists, while logging 8 turnovers for the second straight outing. The 41-year-old shot a meager 2-for-9 overall (22.2%), missing all three of his 3-point attempts as he showed his age for the first time this postseason.

Despite suiting up in another high-stakes playoff battle after just one day’s rest at an age when most players are already retired, the NBA community on X didn’t cut James any slack.

“WORST PLAYOFF GAME? 😬,” Lakers Lead asked.

“LeBron James earned himself the ‘Hot Garbage Treatment’ for his performance in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 115-96 Game 4 LOSS vs. Houston 🔥🗑️,” Courtside Buzz blasted James.

“LeBron only 2-9 and 0-3 from 3??? I guess the Longevity King was saving himself for the close-out Game 5 Wednesday night back at the Crypt,” veteran NBA analyst Skip Bayless quipped.

“One of those nights for LeBron. Can’t get anything going. Even his layups are rimming out. As forgettable a game as you’ll ever see from him. He’ll bounce back in Game 5 and the Lakers will need to do the same to end this series,” fan account Witness King James summed up the Lakers veteran’s off night.

While overreactions ran rampant online, the Lakers remain in firm control of the series, up 3-1 with another chance to close out Houston at home in Wednesday’s Game 5 clash, with Reaves reportedly on the brink of making his long-awaited return.
