The Charlotte Hornets have been on a roll as of late. The Hornets recently took on the Chicago Bulls and easily dominated them, 131-99. Looking at their last 10 games, including the Bulls game, Charlotte has won 7 of them.
Because of their efforts, the Hornets are undergoing a resurgence and are currently in the Play-In Tournament picture after what seemed like another hopeless season. A Hornets legend recently shared his thoughts on his former team’s current state and how LaMelo Ball’s leadership has helped them reach the position they’re in today.

Muggsy Bogues Commends LaMelo Ball’s Efficient Leadership
Say what you want about Ball, but there’s no denying that he is the Hornets’ best player and leader. Many criticize LaMelo for his style of play, often displaying a pick-up basketball approach, which isn’t viewed as a professional way to play the sport, especially in a league like the NBA.
However, some believe that Ball is doing a fantastic job leading Charlotte. In a recent interview with Hornets legend Muggsy Bogues, he shared his thoughts on Ball and how he operates as the team’s leader.
Bogues noted how Ball’s best trait is his leadership. He loves seeing LaMelo always trying to get his teammates involved, which not many stars are willing to do.
“It’s his leadership,” Bogues said about Ball. “He’s a gym rat boy. He just loves playing the game. You can see his eyes out there when he was a kid. His game hasn’t changed much, but his IQ has, and I think the game has slowed down for him tremendously. He understands the importance of getting everybody involved as opposed to just himself.”
Bogues then noted that Ball needs to stay healthy if he wants to play the leadership role to perfection.
“Health is always a key for him,” Bogues added. “As you can see, how he’s able to galvanize the guys and get them to rally to play some great basketball here in this stretch. Melo is a great leader. I’m loving his leadership personally.”
Despite being snubbed once again to be crowned an All-Star, Ball is putting up superstar numbers for his team. Looking at his figures, LaMelo is averaging 19.4 points, 7.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.
The Hornets are currently one game away from overtaking the Atlanta Hawks in ninth place. With 23 games remaining, Charlotte still has enough time to try to climb all the way to seventh place, given that the team is only three games behind the Miami Heat (eighth place) and the Orlando Magic (seventh place). That’s only assuming the Hornets can keep the momentum they’ve built over the past 10 games.
