The NBA trade deadline always brings noise, and when Giannis Antetokounmpo’s name enters the conversation, the volume spikes instantly. Rumors have been everywhere, fueled by Antetokounmpo’s desire for another championship, Bucks’ uneven (20-29) season, and desperate contenders circling. But as the clock winds down to 3 p.m. on Feb. 5, one insider is pushing back hard on the idea that the Bucks are ready to move their franchise star.

Jake Fischer Pours Cold Water on Any Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade
NBA insider Jake Fischer offered a sobering reality check on the Antetokounmpo trade chatter, making it clear that league-wide belief does not align with the speculation online.
“So Minnesota, without a doubt, still thinks they are in play for Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Fischer said. He added that Miami shares that belief. “The Wolves and the Heat both think they are.”
But that optimism is not universal. Fischer noted that the New York Knicks are not involved at all, and Golden State has already moved on. “Golden State absolutely believes they are no longer in the running. That’s why they moved forward and traded Jonathan Kuminga last night.”
The most telling part of Fischer’s comments came next. “No one from Golden State, Minnesota, Miami, anyone else around the league — even people in Milwaukee I’ve spoken to — believe that the Bucks are actually serious about trading Giannis.”

That sentiment sharply contrasts with the recent narrative suggesting the Bucks might finally consider a reset. According to Fischer, Milwaukee’s front office is still acting like a team planning around Antetokounmpo, not without him.
He pointed to ongoing discussions involving Memphis and guard Ja Morant as evidence. “We know the Bucks are still having conversations with Memphis about acquiring Ja Morant,” Fischer said, suggesting the team is exploring ways to retool, not rebuild.
Fischer also floated the idea of strategic patience. A late-season slide combined with lottery luck could give Milwaukee another asset to flip for help around Antetokounmpo.
“A little bit of a tank job here down the stretch, a little bit of lottery luck could help them get a top pick that they could flip again for more talent around Giannis. So that’s really it,” he said.
Antetokounmpo Still Feels Untouchable
The timing makes the rumors understandable. Major names like James Harden and Anthony Davis have already changed teams, and the league has been bracing for one more shock. Antetokounmpo, after all, has been frustrated by the Bucks’ performance, and the team has not looked like a clear title favorite.
Still, Antetokounmpo himself has been consistent. He has repeatedly said he wants to stay in Milwaukee.
“If you ask me what I really want, deep down in my heart? I want to be a Milwaukee Buck until I retire and win a championship here,” Antetokounmpo told Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
That loyalty carries weight. The Bucks drafted the Greek sensation in 2013, when he was just 18. He has spent his entire career in Milwaukee and delivered the franchise a championship in 2021.
The production has not dipped, either. Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists while shooting 64.5% from the field and 39.5% from three-point range. He leads the Bucks in points, rebounds, and assists.
Everyone knows Antetokounmpo wants another title. What’s becoming clearer, even at the deadline’s edge, is that he still wants to chase it in Milwaukee, and the Bucks appear intent on doing the same.
