The NBA community is on high alert after Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo removed the majority of Bucks-related content from his social media accounts. While Antetokounmpo has drastically altered his social media accounts before, this feels different. A top NBA insider revealed a potentially direct reason for Antetokounmpo’s actions.
Latest Update on Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade
NBA insider Brian Windhorst revealed that Antetokounmpo has notified the Bucks organization that he wants to leave.
Windhorst said, “The Bucks called the Knicks and asked for an offer for Giannis, okay, because Giannis said I wanna be a Knick. He asked to be traded already.”
Windhorst added, “What appears is that Giannis committed himself to the season for the Bucks. But the Bucks are not good. This year when he hasn’t played, they are 1-5. And when he has played, they’re 9-8.”

As Windhorst points out, the two-time league MVP appeared to lose patience with the organization this past offseason. Since winning the NBA championship in 2021, the Bucks have won just one playoff series while being eliminated in the first round three straight years.
Antetokounmpo has repeatedly stated that he wants to win another championship. The Bucks organization has tried to match Antetokounmpo’s desire to win another championship by making multiple coaching changes and trading for nine-time All-Star point guard Damian Lillard, but nothing has worked.
Windhorst mentioned that Antetokounmpo wanted to be traded to the Knicks, though it’s likely those discussions never gained any traction because the Knicks reportedly made All-NBA guard Jalen Brunson unavailable.
Antetokounmpo is likely especially frustrated because he’s having another historic season. He’s averaging 30.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting a career-high 63.9% from the field. If he can sustain this pace, it will be his third straight season averaging more than 30 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists per game while shooting better than 60% from the field, something no other player in NBA history has accomplished.
Despite Antetokounmpo’s brilliance, the Bucks wouldn’t even make the Play-In Tournament if the season ended today. The team’s big acquisition, center Myles Turner, is only averaging 12.5 points per game while shooting a career-low 43.6% from the field, which adds to the tension.
Antetokounmpo is in the first year of a new three-year extension; however, he’s likely to decline the player option after next season, so the Bucks are essentially down to a season and a half of control. It seems inevitable that Antetokounmpo is leaving.
