During the 2025 offseason, Milwaukee’s social media team leaned hard into a redemption narrative. Every post, every hype video seemed to send the same quiet message. It was that the Bucks were locked in for the 2025-26 season and were determined not to repeat last year’s playoff failures.
The silent subtext was clear: ‘Giannis Antetokounmpo is our franchise, and we’re not risking him. ‘ Fast forward to now, and the reality looks much uglier. The Bucks are struggling with a 9–13 record, and right on cue, the Antetokounmpo rumors have fired back up again.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Made a Surprising Move
On December 3, one move by Antetokounmpo on social media suddenly caught the eye of many Bucks fans. He deleted all his tweets from July 2021, wiping away years of online history. On Instagram, the scrub was just as loud, as almost all Bucks-related content vanished, with only two Milwaukee posts left standing: the 2021 championship and the in-season tournament cup.
For a fanbase already on edge, that kind of selective memory looked less like a refresh and more like a warning shot. The trade chatter, which had quieted for a bit, roared right back to life.
As that news gained traction, a conversation resurfaced and began making waves across NBA circles.
In a video clip now circulating online, NBA analyst Bill Simmons, in a discussion with Max Kellerman, floated two potential landing spots if Antetokounmpo ever decided to leave Milwaukee, which were the Atlanta Hawks and the San Antonio Spurs.
Simmons painted both as destinations that could work for Antetokounmpo and the Bucks and suggested Atlanta could send Trae Young to Milwaukee in a blockbuster swap, leaving Antetokounmpo to anchor the Hawks. At the same time, San Antonio could offer an irresistible pairing with Victor Wembanyama.
“If Atlanta got Giannis without giving up Jalen Johnson, Daniels, or even Risacher, could they keep their team, which has this really cool identity right now, without Trae… San Antonio is the one which is like the brain-breaker trade. Just putting Wemby and Giannis on the same team…,” said Simmons during the conversation.
The Atlanta scenario is chaos in the best way. If Antetokounmpo were to land with the Hawks in a world where Trae Young is traded to Milwaukee, the entire identity of the team would flip overnight.

Antetokounmpo is currently averaging 30.6 points on 63.9% shooting, along with 10.7 rebounds. His usual elite defense would instantly drag Atlanta out of the middle of the pack and into serious contention in the East. Without Young’s volume shooting, the Hawks have been leaning more on Jalen Johnson’s skills. Just think of performances like his 28-point, 11-assist, eight-rebound, and zero-turnover showcase against Charlotte.
Drop Antetokounmpo into that ecosystem, and he becomes the engine. His downhill pressure would collapse defenses, freeing shooters while also giving Atlanta the kind of defensive backbone it hasn’t had in years.
The Spurs’ possibility is even scarier for the rest of the league. Putting Antetokounmpo next to Wembanyama would give San Antonio a frontcourt that looks like something out of a video game. Antetokounmpo’s playmaking vision, reflected in his 6.4 assists per game, would perfectly complement Wembanyama’s pick-and-pop versatility, forming a frontcourt that defenses simply couldn’t game-plan against.
