There were three very deserving finalists for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award this season – Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić, Oklahoma City Thunder wing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo
Jokić is a three-time MVP, winning the award in the 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2023-24 seasons. He averaged a triple-double, scoring 29.6 points (third in the league), 12.7 rebounds (third), and 10.2 assists (second) per game while shooting 57.6% from the field.
Antetokounmpo has taken home the award twice, in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. This season, Antetokounmpo was second in the league in scoring, putting up 30.4 points per game while averaging 11.9 rebounds (sixth) and 6.5 assists (13th) while shooting 60.1% from the field.
Gilgeous-Alexander led the league in scoring with 32.7 points per game on 51.9% shooting. He also went for 6.4 assists (14th) and 5.0 rebounds (76th) per game.
Although the three all had incredible seasons, it was Gilgeous-Alexander who took home the award.
His Thunder posted the best record in the league, finishing 68-14. They are also the only remaining in the postseason, eliminating Jokić’s Nuggets in seven games in the Western Conference Semifinals. The Indiana Pacers made quick work of Antetokounmpo’s Bucks in the first round, winning in five games.
