Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has drawn all the attention in the NBA as we approach the highly anticipated trade deadline. For most players, it’s the most stressful part of the season, but for Antetokounmpo, with so many options on the table, it’s been a calm and relaxed process.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Light-Hearted Message as Trade Deadline Pressure Mounts
On his Instagram page, the ‘Greek Freak’ shared a light-hearted message, captioned, “No pencil, but I’m still drawing all the attention.”
Per Chams Charania, four teams have emerged as serious contenders to take the ‘Greek Freak’ from Milwaukee before Thursday. Each team has a variety of packages to throw at the Bucks to gain his services, from young players to draft picks.
The Golden State Warriors have been the most aggressive suitors so far, with the Warriors’ front office wanting to pair Antetokounmpo with Stephen Curry for a championship run. The proposed ‘all-in’ package includes young stars Jonathan Kuminga and Brandon Podziemski, their four-time champion Draymond Green, and several future first-round picks.
However, the ‘Greek Freak’ is more inclined to join the Miami Heat or the Minnesota Timberwolves in the West. The Heat, who sit seventh in the East, have centered a package around Tyler Hierro and rookie Kel’el Ware. They are also willing to give up draft capital.
One of the most exciting propositions is Antetokounmpo potentially joining up with one of the game’s best young superstars, Anthony Edwards. Edwards has reached the Western Conference Finals in the last two seasons and needs some help in taking the next step to the NBA Finals.
However, their lack of draft capital makes the trade difficult and would require up to four teams to complete a complex deal. The New York Knicks also have player capital in Karl Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges, but their interest seems to have sizzled off. The Los Angeles Lakers have also become keen suitors, but that won’t be a deal made until the offseason, if it happens.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, “League sources say that the Bucks, who deep down would still prefer not trade their face of the franchise, believe that a bolt of lottery luck in May could still keep Milwaukee’s dream alive of convincing Antetokounmpo to extend their relationship.”
Per the Milwaukee Journal’s Jim Owczarski, the ‘Greek Freak’ said, “If you ask me what I really want, deep down in my heart? I want to be a Milwaukee Buck for the rest of my career and win here.”
Could all this trade buzz be for nothing? It will be exciting to see how the next 24 hours unfold for Giannis Antetokounmpo’s career.
