Giannis Antetokounmpo Injury Update: Bucks Announce Latest on Superstar’s Status

Bucks’ superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is nursing a calf injury. Here’s the latest update on his injury status and return outlook.

Giannis Antetokounmpo may not be back on the scoreboard yet, but he is back on the court. On Saturday, the Milwaukee Bucks shared a post that quickly caught fans’ attention. With injuries slowing his season and rumors swirling around his future, even a small update feels important right now. This latest sighting offers hope, but it also comes with caution.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Spotted at Bucks Practice

The Bucks gave fans a brief but encouraging update on Antetokounmpo’s recovery. The team’s official X account posted a photo of the superstar at practice along with the caption, “Giannis sighting at practice.”

Antetokounmpo has been limited to just 17 games in his 13th season with Milwaukee. He suffered a right soleus calf muscle strain on Dec. 3, 2025, during a game against the Detroit Pistons.

On Dec. 5, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers said the team expected Antetokounmpo to be out for up to four weeks. Over two weeks have passed since that update, suggesting the two-time MVP should be making solid progress in his rehab.

It remains unclear how much work Antetokounmpo did during Saturday’s practice. Still, being on the floor with teammates is a positive step. The Bucks have not indicated that he will return for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center in Minneapolis. That matchup will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

For now, Antetokounmpo is still rehabbing and remains sidelined.

Bucks Struggle Without Antetokounmpo as Rumors Quiet Down

Antetokounmpo has missed 11 games this season, and the Bucks have felt his absence. Milwaukee is 2-9 without him and has averaged just 106.5 points per game during that stretch. The team has lost four of its last five games and sits 11th in the Eastern Conference with an 11-17 record.

Despite the struggles, the Bucks are being careful with their franchise player. Given the sensitive nature of the calf injury, there is no rush to bring him back. While he has been out, Kyle Kuzma, Bobby Portis, and Jericho Sims have helped carry the load in the frontcourt.

Antetokounmpo’s absence also fueled trade rumors, but he recently addressed those talks head-on and made his stance clear.

“I personally have not had the conversation with the Bucks. I’m still locked in. Locked in on my teammates… locked in on my team,” Antetokounmpo said. “As a leader, but most importantly as a winner, just gotta be there for them first.”

Before the injury, Antetokounmpo was playing at an elite level. He was averaging 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 63.9% from the field.

For now, the Bucks will continue to play it safe. Seeing the Greek Freak back at practice is encouraging, but patience remains the plan as the Bucks wait for their superstar to be fully ready.
