Giannis Antetokounmpo has missed three consecutive games since his appearance against the Indiana Pacers on March 15. With the clock winding down on the regular season, the Milwaukee Bucks are running out of time to fight their way into the postseason.
The Bucks are set to face the LA Clippers on Monday in one of their 12 remaining regular-season games. At this point, losing is no longer an option for Milwaukee. The team needs a nearly perfect stretch to climb into the Play-In Tournament.
However, that is easier said than done, given Antetokounmpo’s absence from the lineup. Fans may be wondering what happened to the star forward and when he might return to the hardwood.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Sidelined with Knee Injury
It has been eight days since the “Greek Freak” last played. Antetokounmpo will continue to miss action, as he is officially listed as out for Monday’s game against the Clippers. During the March 15 matchup against the Pacers, Antetokounmpo injured his left knee in the third quarter.
The injury occurred when Antetokounmpo attacked the left side of the paint for a dunk over Pacers center Jay Huff. He landed awkwardly after making contact with Huff mid-air and, while he briefly remained in the game, eventually headed to the locker room. An MRI later confirmed a left knee hyperextension and a bone bruise, though the imaging showed no structural damage.
The timing is poor for Milwaukee, which currently sits 7.5 games behind the 10th-place Charlotte Hornets for the final play-in spot. Despite the uphill battle, the Bucks plan to reassess his condition next week as they fight to stay in the hunt. While some reports suggest the team could sit Antetokounmpo for the remainder of the season to focus on the 2026-27 campaign, he is reportedly keen to return and finish the season.
Uncertainty Surrounds the Future in Milwaukee
The Bucks currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 29-41 record and are coming off a 108-105 win against the Phoenix Suns. Even as the team focuses on the current standings, external attention has shifted toward Antetokounmpo’s long-term future.
Rumors suggest the star could be traded over the summer. Bucks co-owner Wes Edens recently noted that the organization will either reach an extension with Antetokounmpo or explore a trade, as they cannot afford to let him enter the final year of his contract without a new deal in place.
