NBA World Dunks on ESPN Insider Shams Charania As Bucks Decide Not to Trade Giannis Antetokounmpo

Shams Charania confirmed Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t being traded, but NBA fans turned on the ESPN insider after months of rumors fell flat.

For months, Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors hovered over the NBA like a storm cloud. Then, just before the February 5 deadline, clarity finally arrived. The Bucks are keeping Antetokounmpo.

But instead of celebration in Milwaukee, the loudest reaction came from fans turning their attention toward the one figure whose name has been stamped in most of Antetokounmpo-related trade chatter, and it’s Shams Charania. This time, an ESPN insider found himself at the center of the backlash.

Shams Charania Faces Fans’ Backlash As No Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Materializes

On Thursday, Charania reported the final word on the saga. “The Milwaukee Bucks have indicated to teams that they are keeping Giannis Antetokounmpo through the trade deadline and will start making other trades, sources tell ESPN,” he wrote on X.

That post confirmed what many teams privately expected but what fans had been debating nonstop. Antetokounmpo is staying put, no blockbuster or last-second shocker.

The problem for Charania is context. He has been closely tied to trade speculation involving Antetokounmpo for months. After the Bucks’ early 2025 playoff exit, Charania reported that Antetokounmpo was open to trade possibilities.

In December 2025, he added fuel by noting that the Greek Freak and his agent, Alex Saratsis, were in conversations with the Bucks about whether staying or moving made the most sense.

Just last week, Charania again stirred the pot, posting that the two-time MVP could be ready for a new home by February 5. So when the final answer turned out to be “no trade,” fans didn’t hold back.

The backlash came fast. One fan summed up the frustration bluntly: “Shams really tried to push the trade Giannis narrative again and it failed 😭.” The reaction reflects a belief that the rumors were overplayed without a payoff.

Another post cut even deeper: “I know this hurt him to post after all the rumors.” The tone suggested that even Charania knew the reversal would spark criticism.

Some fans questioned the reporting altogether. “How bad did this hurt you to tweet? You’ve been pushing a Giannis trade for years lmao,” one user wrote, accusing Charania of recycling the same storyline.

Others focused on timing. “Thought you said this morning he was forcing a trade???”

As the pile-on continued, one account wrote, “Shams on a NASTY run with the Giannis saga,” while another added, “The Shams v Bucks fan rivalry is becoming an all timer.” The storyline had shifted from Giannis to the reporter himself.

Some fans were simply exhausted. “Wasted everybody’s time,” one post read.

Another went further: “Congratulations, you all got clickbaited by Shams for another year. Giannis Antetokounmpo is still a Milwaukee Buck.”

From a reporting standpoint, Charania’s final update was clear and definitive. The Bucks are not trading the 10-time All-Star. From a fan perspective, though, months of speculation created expectations that reality couldn’t match.

Antetokounmpo, for now, remains in Milwaukee, the franchise he has spent his entire 13-year career with and led to a championship in 2021.
