Draymond Green Pushes Back on Rumors of NBA Adding 2 Expansion Teams for 1 Key Reason

Draymond Green questions NBA expansion: With Seattle and Las Vegas favored, he warns tanking teams prove the league’s talent is already too thin right now.

Draymond Green was one of the NBA stars weighing in on the league’s expansion plans. With Seattle and Las Vegas looked at as key cities, the league’s board of governors reportedly is in favor of, the addition of two new teams continues to generate buzz.

The latest comes on the back of commissioner Adam Silver’s comments on the league taking a ‘significant step’ toward adding to its 30-team roster.

Draymond Green Makes His Feelings Known on the Two Expansion Teams

Speaking on his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show,” the four-time NBA champion shared his two cents on the expansion.

Green said, “There are 1/3 of the NBA teams that are tanking. Which means 1/3 of the NBA absolutely f******g sucks. So idk from a talent and competitive basketball standpoint, that expansion is good. Business-wise, incredible. Talent-wise, I don’t think it’s great. You’re going to spread the talent even more thin, and it’s already pretty thin now.”

The Warriors player minced no words when he also brought up teams tanking to gain access to prized high draft picks. While stating that it would skyrocket the business, it would do little from a talent perspective. While the take may seem blunt, Green has maintained his stance on the matter.

Previously, Seattle made headlines as a possible expansion team after the Seahawks won Super Bowl 60. The idea of the city getting a franchise again will make the Supersonics faithful happy.

On the season front, the Warriors will bank on his experience to keep the side in the playoff hunt. With Jimmy Butler already out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, and Stephen Curry sidelined with a knee injury, Golden State’s chances of competing for a title look lean.

At the time of writing, the Warriors went down 126-113 to the San Antonio Spurs. This saw them slip to 29-26, keeping them in eighth place in the standings. With the West looking stacked, the Bay Area side will look to regroup after the 2026 NBA All-Star weekend.

Green remains a strong defensive presence for the team. The four-time NBA All-Star has been durable for a major part of the season so far, with 46 games. While his scoring is still modest at 8.6 points, he has been integral in his rebounding and assists, averaging 5.7 and 5.2, respectively.

The Warriors will return to action with two games at home after the All-Star break. It remains to be seen if Green can keep the side afloat till Curry returns from injury.
