Draymond Green Breaks Down What Really Happened During Moses Moody’s Gruesome Knee Injury: ‘He Didn’t Slip’

Draymond Green breaks down Moses Moody's knee injury, revealing players blamed a wet floor before realizing his tendon gave out.

The Golden State Warriors have had a rough go of things this season. Injuries severely derailed their campaign, with both of their superstars going down for extended periods. A torn ACL for Jimmy Butler ended his season near the All-Star break, and Stephen Curry hasn’t suited up since January with a knee injury.

Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse this week when Moses Moody, who was one of the few bright spots in the lineup, suffered a devastating injury to his knee. Now, team veteran and leader Draymond Green reveals what went down on the court during his injury.

Draymond Green Explains What Happened During Moses Moody’s Injury

The 14th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Moody hadn’t emerged as the legitimate star many in Golden State hoped they’d get from a lottery pick. But over the years, he’s become a valuable rotation player for the team.

This year, as the team was ravaged by injuries, he expanded on his role. Averaging a career high in points (12.1) and rebounds (3.3), he also emerged as a sniper from distance, shooting 40.1% from 3-point range on 6.3 attempts per night.

Despite the team struggling as a whole, Moody had proved to be a genuine source of optimism. However, facing the Dallas Mavericks, tragedy struck the fifth-year star.

After stealing the ball away from Cooper Flagg, he had a clear path for a dunk. As he took the two steps to go up, he suddenly fell down on the court of his own accord, immediately clutching his leg.

Diagnosed with a patellar tendon rupture, the injury was too gruesome to even watch again. As he was helped up by the doctors and taken out of the game on a stretcher, Green came over to console him and offer him a sidearm hug.

Now, speaking on the latest episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” he revealed the immediate aftermath of the injury. Initially, the players on the court believed the injury may have been an inadvertent blow due to poor court management.

“If you go look at the play, myself, Naji Marshall, P.J. Washington, a lot of guys are standing there talking. What guys were saying was like, ‘Man, we kept telling them that the floor is wet. We kept telling them the floor is wet,’ because we all thought he slipped.”

However, Moody had already completed his two steps and gone up for the dunk before the injury settled in, and he fell out of the air clutching his leg. Upon a rewatch, the four-time NBA champion realized exactly what went down on the court.

“You go back and watch the replay, he didn’t slip. He went to go up and it just gave out. But that’s what the dialogue was about, we kept telling them, ‘This floor is wet, floor is wet.'”

A long recovery process is likely going to keep Moody out of action for nine to 12 months. A major blow for the Warriors, it may have also completely derailed his career right as he was finding his footing in the league.
