Devin Booker is almost ready to become one of the highest-paid players in the league, with the Phoenix Suns investing more time and energy to keep him closer. The franchise just wants to ensure he continues to be the face of the franchise for the upcoming seasons.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, Booker is expected to sign a two-year, $150 million contract extension around July 6, 2025. The deal would raise his annual salary to $75 million and extend his current agreement.
Booker is entering the second year of his four-year, $220 million deal with the franchise. This new extension will keep him in Phoenix at least until the end of the 2029-30 season. However, as the franchise appears ready to lock things in, reactions among fans have been mixed across social media.
Phoenix Suns Fans Divided on Devin Booker’s Mega Extension
Fans in the Valley are uneasy about committing such a major sum to a roster that continues to undergo significant changes. That includes the surprising trade of Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets earlier this offseason in exchange for the No. 10 pick and several other role players.
It most likely seems like a signal towards a shift in team strategy, but even after recouping the 2025 first-rounder, the Suns have no future first-round picks until 2032.
With limited draft capital, aging stars, and several sizable contracts already on the books, signing Booker to such an expensive extension restricts their financial flexibility. This leaves little to no room for future upgrades. Fans worry that without the right supporting talent, Booker and the Suns will not contend in the long run.
Some fans even urge Booker to leave some money on the table for the team to improve things for long-term competitiveness.
Come on book you love it here so much put some money back on the table to help the team

There are some other fans trying to remind Booker about his love for the Valley.
if he really loved Phoenix he would take a paycut but he won’t

Then there are some who are just in love with Booker and his decisions.
ARIZONA LEGEND BABY!!! WE LOVE YOU BOOK!!!!

There are also fans who understand the implications of this heavy-duty contract extension. They are well aware of all the possibilities that the team is facing in the future.
Whatever it is it isn’t enough. We are going to be mid for the next few years. He deserves better.

Another fan brings up a similar point, trying to warn Booker that if he needs a championship, he should take an exit.
He needs to go to a new team!!! Suns will never win a championship and he deserves better 🔥🔥

And of course, there are skeptics who think that this is a major investment in Booker and a red flag for the Suns.
To get the 12 seed in the west again? Sick. Investment.

While many feel Booker is not deserving of the money, other fans continue to support him in his quest for a championship ring. He has, of course, more than earned the right to lead the team.
At just 28 years old, he is already a four-time NBA All-Star, the Suns’ all-time leading scorer, and among the top-15 shooting guards in the league, averaging 27.1 points, 6.9 assists, and 4.5 rebounds during the 2024-2025 NBA season. His loyalty to Phoenix has never wavered, especially as the team is now being reshaped with him as the focal point.
Now that Durant is no longer with the team and with a possible deal involving Bradley Beal, Booker should be the pillar of this franchise. His reported role in bringing in new head coach Jordan Ott shows just how much sway he now holds within the organization, aligning their vision with his leadership.
