DeMar DeRozan Surpasses Dominique Wilkins on the NBA Elite List

DeRozan has kept the mid-range game alive in basketball, often mentioned alongside Kobe Bryant. He has been a franchise cornerstone of the Toronto Raptors, where he spent nine seasons and led them to five playoff runs. Although he has no championship title in his resume, his career is defined more by skill and consistency.

The 36-year-old also played for the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Bulls before joining the Kings in 2024. He has been averaging 18.5 points, three rebounds, and 4.1 assists, but the Kings have been nothing but inconsistent this season, trailing every other team in the West. In their first season under coach Doug Christie, the Kings are in a rebuilding phase.

Team leader DeRozan and playmaker Russell Westbrook have been key contributors, but multiple injury layoffs have heavily impacted the season. The Kings were on a four-game skid when they faced the Raptors on April 1, 2026. Sacramento avenged their loss from the previous night with a strong performance from DeRozan, who scored 28 points, bringing his career total to 26,688 points and reaching a rare milestone.

The 36-year-old surpassed Dominique Wilkins for 17th place on the all-time scoring list, which is topped by James of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The six-time NBA All-Star shot 7 for 18, but went 12 for 12 at the foul line. The win snapped Toronto’s five-game home winning streak, just half a seed away from No. 5 Atlanta Hawks.

DeRozan had reached the top 20 during the Kings’ clash against the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center. He scored 15 points, 7 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 steal while shooting 4-for-7 from the field in 24 minutes of playing time, but couldn’t help his team to victory, falling to the Kevin Durant-led team in 128-97. His 20th mark achievement left John Havlicek and Paul Pierce behind on the elite list.

His team failed to finish in the top 10, which means they won’t be in the Play-In either. They reached the 2002 Western Conference Finals, their best showing in the modern era.
