Paul Pierce on Shams Charania report on Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown personal relationship:

“Come on, man. What news? This is actually news. Did Shaq and Kobe hang out, get along? Did Mike and Scottie? Man, people live different lifestyles.”
The four players that Pierce mentioned won multiple championships. However, the pairs didn’t always get along, and that led to dissension.
For example, Bryant was accused by many of being the driving force behind the Los Angeles Lakers’ trade of O’Neal. Concomitantly, Pippen, to this day, never misses a chance to shade Jordan in interviews. The Celtics icon continues his reasoning, discussing the differences among teammates.
“That’s what you got to understand. Everybody just because they look like they got the best relationship and the chemistry on the court don’t mean that’s what it’s gonna equal off the court.”
By focusing on on-court chemistry, Pierce attempts to slice the illusion that every teammate is a best friend. Brown and Tatum led the Celtics to their most recent championship.
In his estimation, they didn’t need to get along as best friends. Lastly, the Hall of Fame forward asserted that players have different mindsets and goals when not playing.

“Some people got families. Some people are into different things off on their free time. It’s like, all right, that’s cool and that’s okay if they didn’t hang out or communicate. Did we hear about any like scuffles?”
Brown has no children and lives the bachelor lifestyle. He has kept his family life private.
In contrast, Tatum is the father of two boys. Parenting takes a great deal of time and responsibility, and the difference between parents and non-parents remains stark. Basically, in Pierce’s estimation, Brown and Tatum were essentially co-workers, not friends. To him, that seems like more standard operating procedure, and not an anomaly.
