Future Hall of Famers Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook are planning a joint post-retirement vacation with their wives to celebrate their careers and friendship off the court.
However, social media erupted with ruthless jokes targeting their lack of NBA championship rings.
NBA Fans React As Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook Plan Joint Retirement Vacation
Paul and Westbrook are widely regarded as two of the best point guards to ever play in the NBA.
“CP3” finished his 21-season career second all-time in assists (12,552) and steals (2,728), made 12 All-Star appearances, and reached the 2021 NBA Finals with the Phoenix Suns.
“The Brodie” played 18 seasons, won the 2017 MVP award, made nine All-Star teams, reached the 2012 NBA Finals with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and holds the NBA’s all-time triple-double record (209).
Both players came extremely close to winning a ring, but neither ever managed to secure an NBA championship before retiring.
News of their post-career plans broke on the “All The Smoke” podcast. Host Matt Barnes revealed that he recently spoke with Paul, who said he and Westbrook are planning a joint vacation with their wives, Jada and Nina.

As soon as the report went viral, basketball fans on social media filled comment sections with jokes. Many fans immediately resorted to the famous NBA meme about teams getting eliminated from the postseason early, with one fan tweeting:
“They finna go to Cancun.”

Some critics used the moment to attack their playoff records, with one user posting:
“2 point guards who overrated [expletive] and never did nothing in the playoffs but blame other people and front offices 😭.”
Another user took a direct jab at their final seasons on the court, writing:
“They have been on vacation for years not helping [their] teams.”
“I can already hear the jokes,” another fan commented.

Despite the online mockery, both players have officially closed the chapter on two dominant careers.
Paul walked away after being released by the Toronto Raptors, who acquired him in a trade from the Clippers just before the deadline. The 41-year-old was unable to get the fairytale ending he may have wanted. Westbrook officially announced his retirement after 18 seasons through a video titled “The Museum of Unspoken Answers.”
While they never won a ring, their off-court friendship and legacy as two future Hall of Fame point guards remain unshakable.
