Calls Mount for NBA To Cut Ties With Commissioner Adam Silver: ‘Not the Man for the Job’

Belief in NBA Commissioner Adam Silver appears to be at an all-time low as many frustrated fans want a change in leadership.

NBA All-Star Weekend is a chance for Commissioner Adam Silver to promote the league and share updates with fans, sponsors, and owners. However, this is a rough patch for Silver, as the league is currently dealing with multiple issues that concern the fans. As the pressure continues to build, more members of the NBA community are becoming vocal regarding Silver’s future.

NBA Community Lashes Out at Adam Silver for ‘Incompetence’

One of the most pressing issues Silver is currently facing is blatant tanking by teams at the bottom of each conference. The NBA recently fined the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers for flagrant tanking, while other teams, like the Washington Wizards, are already prioritizing next season despite having over 30 games left to play in the current one.

Silver is frustrated by the predicament and is brainstorming drastic solutions, such as eliminating the NBA Draft. That thought hasn’t gone over well with many fans and analysts. Orlando Magic podcast The Sixth Man Show said on X that “Silver’s job is to make money for the owners of the NBA. He is going to ruin the league beyond repair if they don’t step in.”

NBA podcaster James Hansen said on X, “Another way to harm small markets. It’s time to remove Silver.” Barstool Sports’ Frank Fleming said, “This is an incompetent commissioner.”

Silver has also taken a lot of heat for an apparent conflict of interest regarding the dangers of sports betting. As Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, Portland Trail Blazers Head Coach Chauncey Billups, and others face federal gambling charges, questions remain about Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who recently announced his partnership with Kalshi, a major sports prediction market.

Silver’s job security came under question again after he gave what many consider unsatisfying answers while discussing the Antetokounmpo/Kalshi deal. Sports writer Dan Wolken said, “Why is he so weak and mealy mouthed? The issue isn’t how much money Giannis invested in the company and he knows that. What a ridiculous comment.”

NBA insider Josh Eberly said, “Adam Silver is very clearly not the man for the job. Don’t have a clue what he stands for and his vision for TikTok NBA topia would be the death of the league.”

The latest issue adds even more pressure, as Silver has already dealt with long-standing criticism regarding the erosion of All-Star Weekend, healthy players sitting out games, and poor on-court play during regular-season games that lack intensity.

Former NBA player Kyle Collinsworth said, “Can the NBA get a new commissioner?”

NBA Reporter Bonta Hill said, “I love the fact that the heat has turned up on Adam Silver. It happened in baseball with Rob Manfred, and he responded in a way that most of us didn’t expect– and MLB has thrived. How will Silver respond? How we remember him will be determined by what actions he takes to turn the NBA around.”

Fox Sports podcaster Aaron Torres said, “Sunday sports prediction: By the end of the day today, there will be real calls for Adam Silver’s job. League is a mess, and All-Star Weekend is an embarrassment. Wait until you see what the league has in store for its All-Star “game” tonight. It’s coming.”
