Carmelo and La La Anthony were once seen as a strong couple, but things began to fall apart behind the scenes.
With personal issues, media pressure, and other challenges, their love story took a different path. Now, they’re prioritizing co-parenting—but what led them to this point?
La La and Carmelo’s Relationship Timeline: 2003 to 2021
In 2003, they met through a mutual friend, and their friendship quickly grew. They married on Christmas Day 2004. Kiyan Anthony, their boy, was born on March 7, 2007. Their wedding was fancy and took place in New York City in July 2010.
In 2011, Carmelo made the switch from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks. This trade led to a surge in media focus and public interest in their lives. His wife later shared her thoughts on that time, mentioning that the intense spotlight in New York complicated their relationship and signaled the start of difficulties in their marriage.
They were married for over ten years before their divorce was finalized in June 2021. Their relationship, which started in the early 2000s, went through a number of problems throughout the years.
The couple went through some tough times in their marriage, which led to their separation in April 2017. Reports from that period indicated that Carmelo’s rumored infidelity was a contributing factor to their breakup. After some time apart, she filed for divorce in June 2021, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.
Family law expert Joseph Mannis had this to say about how child support might be set up in their split: “La La is looking at easily $60,000 – $100,000 a month in child support. Then it would be up to [Carmelo] to say that’s insane and say that the reasonable needs of the child are going to be somewhere in the $15,000-$30,000 range.”
La La Speaks On A Show
In a interview in 2021 with “The Angie Martinez Show”, La La shared her feelings and some internal details about her marriage, she said, “It was bad because there were allegations — it got bad and you know I’m not a person to ever put my business on social media.”
La La once spoke about her opinions on marriage. She claimed in an interview in 2023 that most of them appear “miserable” and that her friends’ enthusiasm about getting married has diminished.
Though they no longer live together, the couple still schedule time to raise their son Kiyan together. They concentrate on establishing a safe environment for him to be and attempt to keep things cordial.
